Chronic Lumbar Pain

I have injured my lower back several years ago via DeadLifts. Shortly after, I went to see a physiotherapist who showed me daily exercises to stretch my hamstrings, IT band, and hip flexors. The pain was still there, but it wasn't too bad. A month ago, my feet were going numb from sitting down for 15 or 20 min so I went to see a doctor who got me to do a CT scan. The results came back and the doctor says that I shouldn't worry too much as my discs will heal naturally. I am booking an appointment to see my physiotherapist next week, but in the mean time I am wondering if there are any stretches or exercises I can do to begin the healing process?
This is the report of my CT scan:
Exam Type:
CT lumbar spine
Comparison:
None
History:
Acute low back pain
Technique:
Helical scans from L2 - S1 without contrast medium
Findings:
At L2-3, L3-4 and L4-5, the discs appear intact with no evidence of focal herniation. No spinal stenosis, foraminal stenosis or facet abnormality is demonstrated.
At L5-S1, there is mild concentric bulge of the disc slightly indenting the thecal sac. No focal disc herniation, spinal stenosis or foraminal stenosis is identified. The facet joints are unremarkable.
Impression:
No significant abnormality is identified.

You can also try to call the Dr and ask what limitations, in exercising, if any, you can be doing before your next appt.
I have had 2 back surgeries and my last operation was 5-1/2 months ago and I'm still in pain.
Meds:
Garabentin
Vicotin
Valium
Zeshor
Good luck and keep me updated.

Your spine may heal itself, but it might not either. I waiting 3 years after being in a severe car accident. My back hurt all the time. I went to physical therapy, pool therapy - which was actually very helpful, acupuncture, I got about 30 injections which did not help, spent a fortune on massage therapy. I went to a chiropractor who made my back injury worse. I finally had surgery from a doctor who didn't know what he was doing and he took out half of my L5-S1 disc and wasn't prepared to fix it - so he just left it like that and my spine collapsed on one side, so I ended up leaning 40% to the left, so then I went to a "top" spine surgeon, who did 3 fusion surgeries and forced my back to be straight, but I have constant pain in my foot - which is numb - which is called neuropathy - if you wait too long to try to get this treated - it can turn out to be permanent! the "top" spine surgeon also damaged my femoral nerve so my left thigh burns and aches all the time - I have more pain from that than I ever did with my back! And that surgery was over 3 years ago - and my new doctors don't seem to know what to do. I still have some SI pain - I had to quit working because I can't sit or stand for more than a few minutes at a time. I can't walk on my right foot too much because of the pain I have in it from the neuropathy. I see your additional note that if you are in any position other than laying down for over 10 minutes, you have a strange feeling. Some pain. I was in a car accident in 2003. Afterwards, for about a week, my spine felt weird - like it was unstable. Then one day, I leaned over to get some butter out of the fridge, and felt this RIPPPPP - and I had 3 discs that herniated all at once. I think you should go to a second doctor - like a neurologist - don't go to a neurosurgeon - they will do some kind of surgery. Surgery doesn't necessarily get rid of pain. You could try getting injections. Have a ny of the doctors assessed you for SI Joint pain or sciatica? Both conditions can be very painful. You might try going to a pain management doctor. Gabapentin might help you with the numb feeling in your foot - but I ignored mine for 3 years and ended up with permanent neuropathy. Take care, and good luck!
