Chronic pancreas and swollen stomach

Posted , 3 users are following.

My sister suffers with Chronic pancreas and has done for a while now. My sister was rushed into hospital last month with so much pain that she had to go onto morphine and the drip for three days. She had an x-ray and they said she needed a scan. They said it was because she had been constipated! They gave her meds to go to the toilet and send her home without a scan!

She is still in pain and her stomach is really swollen. She can't eat through the pain and they are doing nothing about it. Her digestion is not working and this is one of the reasons she is scared to eat. The meds they gave her no loner work for indigestion.

She phoned her consultant many, many time over the last couple of weeks to get an appointment to see him and they have only just arranged one in two weeks time.

My sister believes she is dying! She is not well and no one will take notice of her.

Can anyone help me here please and give any advice at all? If anyone here or knows of anyone that is suffering like is and what happened?

Many thanks in advance to all.

    Hi

I'm sorry to hear that your sister is suffering so badly. Unfortunately pain and also a swollen stomach are symptoms of CP.

I have CP and have had a large part of my pancreas removed and the rest is slowly giving up.

If she is still taking Morphine then it is possible that she is constipated because of that and her GP should be able to help with medication for this.

She might be better to stick with low fat soups and smoothies for the moment until it settles down.

She does need to keep active laying in bed or sitting around is not good. Activity will keep the bowels working and help to get rid of any gas that builds up due to CP (a normal consequence of the disease).

CP is one of the most painful conditions that you can have due to nerve damage but 2 weeks for an appointment is not long to get to see a consultant, although when you are in pain it can seem like a lifetime.

Please reassure her that she might feel like it, but it is extremely unlikely that she will die.

Firstly I would like to apologise for not replying back sooner. My sister has now had a scan and she is still waiting to hear back from the results.

I did tell her what you said I it did help and I would like to thank you for that.

She is still in lots of pain and suffers more so with indigestion and is scared to eat again. The consult said he was going to give her some tablets to take when she eats food but he forgot to write out a prescription and she as phoned a few times to get one written out, but he still hasn't!!!

    Thank you again for helping!

There are three things that you can try.1. email the consultants secretary. 2. Get her GP to push the consultant. and 3. Ask the GP if he can prescribe them directly.

Do be aware that many prescriptions say take them 3 x per day with meals, this is incorrect. They should be taken with all meals and most snacks.
