Chronic pleurisy

I have been suffering from pleurisy for a few months now!! I had it 3 out of 4 weeks in one month. And now twice within 3 weeks. I have been to a pulmonary specialist and they ran all kinds of tests just to tell me they all came back normal. Well why am I constantly getting this pleurisy and doubled over in pain not being able to breathe? I'm only 36 and don't want to have to keep dealing with this pain and really want answers to why I keep having it all the time

Have you considered seeing a rheumatologist? It might be related to lupus. Many tests don't show pleurisy, such as X-rays. I had a CT scan which did show the fluid and scarring in the lungs, but if I had not had a pleural effusion, maybe nothing would have shown up. Do you think blood tests might show what else might be causing it?
I have lupus, and it is mostly under control, but the pleurisy is still there. It had started to clear up, but now it's back.

I just got tested for lupus and RA and the tests came back negative. Going to call a different pulmonary specialist and get another opinion because something is triggering these flair ups and I can't deal with the constant pain. I did also have a CT scan done which they said it showed a bit of fluid but not enough for them to worry.

I feel your pain. I am at about 6 weeks now. I'm almost finished with my 2nd round of Presnisone, and completed one round of antibiotics. I thought I was getting better a couple days ago, but now I'm in pretty bad pain around the back of my lungs. It's seems to move around. I have an appointment with the pulmonologist Thursday. From what I read on these forums, a lot of people suffer longer than a few weeks. I'm not sure why the discrepancy, but the doctors expect a few days to a couple weeks. Could the expected duration be off? I also don't remember getting too sick, but I work in a factory, so dust particles or chemicals could be at play. If anyone has knowledge, please share.

I empathize with your frustration. I have had chronic pleurisy for the last 6 years. Its intense, painful, and frustrating to work with half a dozen doctors and to have all test results come back as negative, and doctors tell me there is nothing wrong. Well, debilitating chest pain indicates to me that there is a problem, one that has been unresolved for years. I wish I could offer some kind of help or direction in receiving care, but I'm afraid I'm as lost as you are on this one.

Hi, i suffer with something similar, for over 10 years everyday some days are less than others. i bought a finger thing to that reads oxygen. And my oxygen fluctuates a lot. my discomfort or pain travels back, front the aide. Is mainly the Left lung when i had a lung collapsed thats how it started, i used to go to the emergency about 3 times a year because the pain simulates a pneumothorax but XR shows nothing. i went to a pulmonologist the Spirometer test shows low mild low oxygen when i walk. but other than that my lung are clear. its like a mystery no doctor knows why i have pain and that causes low oxygen levels, one possibility they thought pulmonary hypertention but other test were negative for not so it was ruled out. i hope all of you find answers and a treatment.
