Chronic rhinosinusitus

Hi guys. I am new to the site and new to being ill in general so really must need some independent advice. It started around March this year, really tight headaches, burning around my eyes, dizzyness, burning nose, feeling sick and at some times really really tired. This alongside the most phlem I think I have ever had, even resorting to hocking up at work sometimes. Googling all the symptoms convinced me that this was a brain tumour at first, mainly because I was certain my sight was being affected and the headaches were pretty intense. An eyetest revealed I was very slightly long sighted but this did not cure the headaches so after around 5 GP visits I was given the chronic sinusitus diagnosis. Great I thought, antibiotics and various sprays and it will be gone forever. Well over the course of about 8 months I have had 4 or 5 different antibiotics and about 6 different sprays, all have had varying effects but after a while I have returned to my zombie like state. So I then convince myself it must be sinus cancer because it wont go it must be serious right? My appointment at the ENT specialist and tube up the nose didnt show this just a nasty infection and inflamation so another 4 weeks of antibiotics and more sprays. Also a CT scan was booked and completed. The antibiotics I think improved my condition somewhat but now they have run out and it all seems back to sqare one again. The CT scan results are in but a doctor cannot see me to discuss until February! I guess this is a good sign, surely if anything serious they would sqeeze me in before then? Anyway being as worried as I am I asked for a copy of the results to be emailed to me. So 3 things really. 1:does anybody fancy translating them into English me for? 2: is it normal to go through the day feeling miserable, almost depressed because of the condition thinking about it all of the time? 3: Are there any miracle cures ie herbs, vitamins. So far I have tried inhaling steam, using a neilmed pot with solution, all antiiotics and sprays available. Sorry for the long message I just hope somebody may be able to help me

Vitamin d and magnesium Deficiency Can have a lot to do with your symptoms in addition to the sinus infections . My sons 15 and had been going threw this for over a year in and off . We go Monday for our cat scan results . All I know is that people do not care and show

No sympathy about headaches or sinus infections . What has worked for him is less dairy and all organic dairy ect when he does eat it .and he

Knows when he's going to get. A sinus infection he gets a small sharp pain in his left ear . All that works lately is azithromycin 250 mg 5 days on 5 days off 5days back in again with 2 aleves twice a day .im doing to talk to the doctor about the surgury that. Like power washes and stretches your sinuses .

    Hope this helps .jules

I have had Ryhinitis for two years now, probably due to allergies. I do get sinusitis, and get pain in the area, to the side of my right eyebrow and upper  corner of my nose. I have recently been given Nasonex nasal spray, which has improved the pain area. I take Fexofenidine for my allergies. I also use a battery operated nasal wash I bought on Amazon, also the box of small sachets of salt to put into the pre boiled water, that goes into the devise. It does spray the area inside very well. About £28 but have had this a year with no problems. Not a nice problem to have, but it can dissapear as quickly as it came, if you have it young I have been told. I also use when the pain was bad, heat pads (called HotHands)  you can buy in Chemists or Amazon, small heated pads, usually meant for inside gloves. The heat if pressed to the sinus area makes it feel better. These are tricks I use to improve my situation.

    Hi Sussexguy

i read your post with interest as I have similar issues especially with the phlegm.  Are you on any meds?  I am going to a ent dr in January.  It is such a chronic problems and can be quite depressing and frustrating.  I am on sertraline since April and all this started since I started the meds that's why I asked if you were on any.

I have thought that maybe such a long dose of antibiotics hadn't helped so I haven't gone back for any more after around 4 weeks worth in a row it doesn't seem to do anything and like you are saying I am wondering if they are having some of these effects I am feeling. So just the nasal spray and going to try other bits people suggest!

I did have a bad sore throat few months ago, and sinus trouble phlegm and very sore mouth. My problem turned out to be a fungal infection. I was given Antibiotics at first which exacerbated the fungal infection. I was later given a mouth wash, medication to kill the fungal infection that was in my throat and mouth and it cleared up.

how was your fungal  infection diagnosed?

Well the doctor should take a swab and send off to the lab to be sure. For me my doctor gave me the mouthwash straight away, as we were pretty sure it was fungal.

    Hi Sussexguy,

First of all stop worrying, I know it is easier said than done, I am exactly the same. It is highly unlikely to be anything serious and even if it ws they would not keep you hanging around until February if something nasty turned up on the CT scan.

I had very similar symptoms to yourself and being the hypochondriac I am I too thought it was the 'C' word and worried myself sick until the CT scan of course proved otherwise.

My symptoms never really improved much despite sprays etc and in the end I took a friends advice and gave up all dairy produce and within 2 to 3 weks nearly all my symptoms disappeared and touch wood have stayed away since September.

I cant guarantee it will work for you but please try and stop worrying and enjoy the festive season, I am sure your tests will be fine.

Yes I gave up Dairy months ago. Dairy as you probably know encourages more mucosa. Also had it been serious your doctor also would probably have asked if you have private care, as a safeguard.
