Chronic Sinus Problems

Hi Guys

I am new here and want to share my experience and see if anyone can offer any help?

I am 46 and have had bad sinus trouble since primary school I always had a runny nose which was regularly green and thick 🤢 I remember being prescribed loads of bottles of medicine/tablets/sprays none of which worked. I went to ENT consultants who gave me a sinus nose wash. I had my ananoids out aged 10, then when I was 26 I was had lining in my nose trimmed (an awful experience) all totally useless. I stopped going to GP over the years as I was left of the opinionI had to live with this.

Things are getting worse though and I can't carry on like this. My nose is constantly blocked. I bring up mucus from my throat, My breath stinks 😷 I wake up in the morning with a dry furry vile smelling mouth. I have to constantly eat mints and not get too close to anyone when talking. My poor hubby can't kiss me 😟

I have read up about Neti pots and bought one to try and also the Neil med system but I could only do it a few times as I got a horrendous ice cream swimming pool sensation type headache very bad!

Does anyone else suffer similar to me? Are there any supplements, complimentary therapies I could try?

Really would love ease from this horrible condition

As a child I had a lot of catarrh and later endless mucus which I had to suck and force down from the sinuses. About 20 years ago I was advised to avoid dairy milk and yoghurt at least in drinks- so I switched to Soya (unsweetened)-the only alternative that but the mucus increased. Then about a month ago I read that Soya can increase mucus and I found HEMP milk(unsweetened). It has a feint vanilla taste unlkie the obvious coconut or almond milks..The effect was almost instantanious and the amount of mucus reduced overnight. I still clear some first thing in the morning and get some in the throat which seems to come from the lungs. Worth a try

    I am very sympathetic.

When you say you had "the lining" in your nose "trimmed" are you referring to your turbinates being reduced or removed? This is not great news. Can you be more specific on that surgery?

Bad breath can also be the result of dry mouth. Some of the causes of this include medications or nose blockage.

Yellow or green mucus can be a sign of infection.

Might I suggest having your GP refer you to a different ENT?

      Hi

Yes the surgery was trimming of the turbinates. It was an awful surgery, am thinking of asking for another referral but just don't know what else they can do TBH. I have had 3 previous surgeries exhausted all nasal sprays etc.

Yes I have a very dry mouth as I take meds for migraine and an antidepressant so combined with bad sinuses not a great mix !

All those surgeries may have damaged the functionality of your nose especially mucosa and nasal cycle. Can you get a referral to another ENT? That's my best advice.

Hi. Read your post and see you also suffer from chronic headache too. You should be tested for Sjogren's with these symptoms. It may very well explain your very dry mouth. Not sure uf you have ever seen anyone other than ent but I would certainly want to rule that out.
