Chronic sinusitis causing anxiety & depression??
Posted , 32 users are following.
Hello everyone, I've noticed since I've been dealing with chronic sinusitis for a long time that I've been having really bad waves of depression as well as anxiety. I didn't have these issues before I also have trouble thinking and even have unwanted negative thoughts etc.
Anybody else experienced this as a result of chronic sinus infection??
I've also noticed since I've been sick with this I am extra sensitive to caffeine, sugar and stimulants. Thoughts???
Thanks

Hey. I've been dealing with my sinuses for over 12 years and have undergone 5 sinus surgery's. I stay depressed because of my disease. I was just diagnosed with Samter's Triad . They finally put a name to what was wrong with me.

I am so happy I found this thread..
I am 24 yrs. Oct. 2015 I was t-boned at 70mph. I had 3 brain lesions on my frontal lobe and had smashed my face on the dash. Since then I have had back to back sinus infections, colds, flus, anxiety/depressive episodes, extreme fatigue, brain fog, vertigo, night terrors, and breathing issues. All while not even knowing it was my sinuses. Which caused severe panic disorder.
No one took me seriously. Doctors had me on loratadine, inhaler and anxiety meds. They didn't work. I have 10's of thousands of debt for hospital stays where they couldn't figure why I was so sick.
My new doctor is a God send. These past years have been absolute HELL. I now have an allergist and a new doctor. They together are working with what they believe is mild asthmatic allergies (some severe) with allergic rhinitis and silent reflux. I have 2 nasal sprays, pills, and nose saline. I lost my job and I'm wondering if I will be able to get my hard labor back.
It's terribly hard to explain. No one understands. Especially work. They think I can run a marathon and still have air to spare. So stressful.
Thank you all for the posts.
I hope you're all discovering your remedies and reliefs.
Any tips are WELCOME!

GM... I am glad that you are getting the help that you need. My new dr is God sent as well. Bradford Woodworth at UAB in Brimingham Ala. I hate to hear that you lost your job. It's hard for me to work sometimes too. I just had my fifth sinus surgery on July 19 so far so good. Now I have to be aspirin desensitized. I'm praying for a healthy outcome. Just stay positive and keep looking up to God because it could be worse. Maybe you can try to get on disability because that's my next step. I just can't work sick anymore. The older I get the harder it is . Thanks for the reply and good luck. Just keep looking up. Have a blessed day.

This is a good observation and I understand that this link has been known in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years. Depression, whether endogenous or exogenous, will relate to something head-located. Sinus/depression and lungs may also become involved (perhaps shallow stressful breathing contributes to that) then skin rashes.
It's better to avoid caffeine, sugar, wheat/gluten and stimulants altogether in any condition and for prevention. Being more sensitive to these is a good alert - wisdom not weakness!
I can smell chemist/supermarket perfume, after-shave, shampoo, hair product etc on someone from along the street which makes me nauseous (along with walking past hair salons, ordinary dentists or dry cleaners.)
I was asked recently if I was taking anything for it! No! It's a skill not a deficiency. I should just move to the countryside.
Being in Nature is the best place for all depression and sinusitis, I have found.
Be well.

PS I meant to add that my exceptionally fit father in his early 20s (now 87) had serious sinusitis. He had some pretty horrible procedures which failed, then found a herbalist who told him, "I could give you a number of tinctures but to begin I want you each morning to open a window and do deep breathing with knee bends and arm swings." He did this faithfully and this oxygenating breathing (a bit like Kapalabhati pranayama breathing in yoga) resolved my father's health problem.
I hope this helps.
