My insurance finally paid half of the price of some Cialis, how often should I take it for effect?

I just received my first prescription for Tadalafil, the generic name for Cialis five days ago. I was prescribed it for ED which resulted from multiple trans-urethral procedures over the last two years. My doctor wrote the prescription, and sent it in to a compounding pharmacy here in NC. I received a call from the pharmacy 2 or 3 hours later, I gave them my credit card #, and it arrived in the mail about 48 hours after my office visit. Hows that for great service!
When the pharmacy called to get my payment (CC) information, they asked me what quantity I wanted, 30 or 60 day supply. I think 30 units was about $110; I chose 60, which was $180, or $3 per dose. What I received was in a small capsule of 6 mg dosage, a bit more than the 5 mg of Cialis tablets. My doctor and I decided that the lower dosage was better to start with, since I still have some erection ability. I tried one capsule, and after an hour, its effect was all that I needed. (He said I could try 2, or even 3 if necessary to achieve erection, but not to exceed 3, which would have been an 18 mg dose.) I think 20 mg is the max for branded Cialis.
Tadalafil remains in the blood for several days. It peak level takes about 30-60 minutes, and then it starts to drop, first a bit rapidly, and then at a slower rate. Google [tadalafil blood serum level vs time] and select images for the results. After 24 hours after taking one dose (and taking none after that), the level is about 30% of the peak level, after 48 hours, its about 20% of the peak, and after 96 hours, it's still at a detectable level.
If you are taking Cialis/tadalafil for ED, then you need to take it 30 to 60 minutes before engaging in sex. If you take it two days in a row, after taking the second one, the peak amount of the drug in your blood 30 or so minutes later will be about 50% greater than it was after the 1st dose.
For someone who takes it on a daily basis for BPH, the peak level achieved is about 50% greater than from a single tablet taken one time. Google [tadalafil blood serum level vs time] and select the image option, and you will find numerous plots of this information.

The normally prescribed dosage which was established in clinical trials is 5 mg daily.
I personally take 10 mg daily plus Doxazosin and find the results far superior to any other medication. However, please be warned that alpha blockers are contra-indicated with Cialis as the combination might induce low blood pressure.
If, like me, you are slightly hypertensive it kills BP, ED and BPH with one stone.

Lew,
My doctor prescribed 5 mg once daily. As yet, I haven't taken it. If you try it,please let us know how it works for you.
Is this for ED or GPH?
