Circumcision DONE

Well I did it! I had my (partial) circumcision today at NYU hospital. The procedure lasted only about an hour and half. I woke up feeling like I’d taken a long nap. No pain yet, I’m sure it’s coming. More of a sensitivity pain. So far it doesn’t look too bad. Bandages come off in two days. More later...

You're probably aware that it won't look pretty when the bandages first come off, so give it at least a few weeks, or even months if you're not happy straight away.  If you had a dorsal slit, you also have the option of having a full circumcision later.

Hope you're happy with the results, and please keep us updated!

Thanks ml66uk! As it turns out it wasn’t a dorsal slot but a partial circumcision. They tried to save as much of the foreskin as possible. They just removed the part that prevented retraction. So far no real pain (surprising!) except for sensitivity pain. Bandage comes off tomorrow and I can shower again!

    CIRCUMCISION UPDATE

It’s been just over a week since my operation and things are going pretty well. The stitches should dissolve in a few days and the only really pain I’ve encountered is the sensitivity of having an exposed glans for the first time in my life! I didn’t even have to take too much of the strong pain killer prescribed by the doctor, just ibuprofen. I’m now experiencing nocturnal erections that wake me up every few hours (a bit painful as I was wearing a baseball cup in bed to protect myself from rubbing on my clothes and bedsheets) Now I wrap my penis is gauze and wear underwear in bed. Seems to be ok. I still use the cup when I’m out for the day to protect myself from accidental bumps on the street or a crowded metro! Keep clean is slow but a must. It seems the surgeon put a strip of cloth under the stitches to keep from irritating my skin but it stays moist and can get funky so I try to clean it with water and some anti-bacterial cream. My follow up is next week so I hope to be functioning normally again soon. I know the sensitivity issues will continue for a while until the skin thickens somewhat. Some funny moments, I’ve had to relearn to urinate! My streams are really big and I’m not used to it cause when I had a foreskin it blocked the direct flow. Now I try not to pee all over the floor! Also, when I get excited my penis bumps on my cup. Ouch! Hopefully that will get better. More later…

Thanks for posting. It helps me challenge my own prejudices! I admit to having a strong aversion to circumcision in principle - especially when it is done to babies and young boys - but I acknowledge that it is sometimes appropriate in adults who have full awareness and have all the information about the pros and cons with which to make an informed choice.

    Thank you again Pepasan,

Yes, I too am against the idea as well but in my case I had to do it. There are moments of regret though. I can't wait to be pain free!

Does anyone know of a cream I could use to reduce the sensitivity of my newly exposed glans (post circumcision) when it rubs against my clothes?

You should check with your doctor before using anything Ibuprofen is available as a Gel in a tube, but I've only used it on my leg. Novocaine gel was used when I had a urinary catheter. Benzocaine is used in the mouth but I've never had it.

I haven’t written in a while but I just wanted to report things are going well with my recovery. Unfortunately i caught the flu and it caused an infection in the shaft of my penis. It’s swelled up but after some anabiotic‘s prescribed by the doctor it seems to have returned to normal size. The sensitivity issue is still there, of course, the doctor said that it should take about 2 to 3 months before the sensitivity becomes a little less. It’s not really just very sensitive! I’ve stop using the baseball cup and am able to wear regular clothing but I use a strip of gauze around the head to keep the rubbing to a minimum. So far so good.
