Circumstantial Depression

I don't exactly run a normal life (or maybe I do and everyone I know is in the same boat and just keep it bottled up like me.)

My partner suffers with Generalised Anxiety disorder. Why they call it 'Generalised' i have no idea because if you ask me its pretty severe. Barely leaves the house unless she absolutely has to. In the past staying in bed all week. Not getting up till mid afternoon when she does get up and a lot of the time only seeming to be there in body and not in mind.

We have two beautiful young daughters. Our oldest is five and has Autism. So if you know anything about autism you'll know that routine is key and communication isn't exactly easy, although we have our ways to do so. Due to Covid-19 my shifts have had to change at work from regular nights to doing days, noons and nights which at times has sent her routine in to complete disarray and again at times has caused her to have behaviour problems.

Our youngest daughter is one and is at the age where she just screams for absolutely any reason but other than that is growing up to be a 'normal' little girl.

Because my oldest daughter needs 100% attention due to autism and youngest daughter needs 100% attention due her age my partner and I tend to look after one each. I look after our oldest and she looks after the youngest.

As the only person with a job in the house I work all the hours I can to try and make money easier. As I said before I did work a regular nights job which fitted in perfectly with our situation. I could take out daughter to school sleep while she was there and pick her up and spend the afternoon with her and get a nap in before work after she's gone to bed. Now that my shifts have changed it has put a lot more pressure on us all with my parents having to help out a lot more.

What I'm basically trying to say is that all of the above get a bit to much for me sometimes or a lot of the time. I've been to see my doctor about depression and she was more than willing to put me on anti-depressants and counciling but did say that they probably wouldn't work due to my form of depression being circumstantial so I didn't take the offer of medication. The advice I was given was to try and change said circumstances. Unfortunately this is not possible and still means I have moments of feeling really low or feeling like I'm about to explode. Is there a medication available that I can take when I'm feel low or about to explode. To take the edge off so to speak.

Thank You for taking the time to read this and Thank You in advance for any advice given.

hi jc, and i thought my life was bad! i am shocked by how awful your busy little life is! i am sure it is good but it doesn't sound it. you basically need time for yourself. you are going to be in danger of burning our. you can't do it all without any support - that's unfair! i think you need to make sure you make time for you. i hope it's sooner rather than later. i would not take medication unless it's something like nice candles, lavender, a chance to do something for you. i have PTSD, depression, anxiety and i am going through hell to be honest. i hope you find the get out you need. good luck. x

The only medication that can help you with depression is antidepressants. They are formulated to help you in sadness and anguish. If you want to stop being depressed then deal with the triggers and confront them. Circumstantial depression sounds like circumstances affect your mood. This is bad and good at the same time. Its more dominant and holds more power at the same time, it can be more easily dealt with. Confront your triggers.
