I have taken cit for 3 years and have just weaned myself off which has taken a year..usually anxiety is a side effect irrationally and your doctor will probably up the dose...diazepam helps ...the higher dose will work better I found ..enjoy your holiday !!😃😃😃

    Hi, Susan

Please read the discussion on coming off Citolopram.

I don't know why you are taking citolopram, but you might take it for anxiety. I sufferd from anxiety as well and had panick attacks. I see now that you also take Diazapam. If you haven't talked to someone about the underlaying issues causing your anxiety please do. For me it helped a lot. and in fact I should have continued. Talking therapy goes in faces. Youn take the next step when you're ready.

I regret it very much now that I went on the Citolopram. At the time it seemed the right dissicion

I know it looks like a simple solution taking a tablet, but as you have realised it isn;t. Your body is telling you something is wrong and it wants action. It doesn't want to be repressed.

A couple of things you can do is; eat Greek yohurt or anything else that contains magnesium. A lack of magnesium may cause anxiety.

    Don't drink coffee or cola

Look after yourself, if you can't eat proper food eat fruit and Omega 3 and the B vitamins especially B6 and 12

Hi Christine - thank you for comments - my doctor said when I was first prescribed cit that I could see psychiatrist in 6 months to see if that helped - I suffer anxiety, panic attacks and depression and have done for about 10 years - I can't think of cause - just had a panic attack out off the blue and it carried on from there! I have done relaxation and pilates but does not really help -  I shall get some Greek yogurt to try - i do eat quite healthy - I have started to get back to gym and do walking and joined the jogging club - I feel at this point in my life the cit will eventually help but I will not rule out alternative treatment - many thanks again for your info - regards Susan

    Hi Susan

I imagine you need a higher dose as 10 is very low and is usually a starter dose

Hi holly - doctor did say that 10mg is a low dose and that he normally starts off with 20mg - he thought I'm just anxious about the holiday so saidto use diazepam when I need it and maybe take an extra. Cit 10mg if I need too on holiday - I am going to do this and see him after holiday and maybe go up to the 20mg! Regards Susan

Yes perhaps the holiday isn't the best time to start on 20mg as you might feel a bit funny, diazepam should help while you're away and then  you can start on 20 when you're back! smile

    Hi Susan

Ive been on Citalopram since the middle of June .....started with 10mg then after a week went up to 20mg.

After the initial side effects wore off I had 4 brilliant weeks then had a set back/blip and after improving again but not as fully as I would have liked I have increased my dose to 30mg.

im telling you all this as I want you to know that many people have had to find out by trial and error which dose works for them?!

10mg is a very low dose....I know many people who take Cit and only one who has had sucess on that dose!

Dont be afraid or disheartened if you have to increase......we have to do what's necessary and helps us to feel better.

Your post caught my eye because like you I was worried about a family holiday and spoiling it for others....well....I've just come back and I can tell you it was exactly the tonic I needed and I enjoyed every minute....a change of scene works miracles!

if you feel you need space....take it! No one expects you to be happy, smiley 24/7 and I'm sure your family just want to help you have as good a holiday as poss...they understand you like nobody else can!

i used two positive thoughts given to me from a therapist......"right now everything is ok" and "whatever happens I'll deal with it" ......to keep me in 'the moment'

I hope you have a fabulous holiday Susan......I'm sure you will !

    wishing you happiness x

Hi Pamela - thank you for comments - went to doctor and like you say he said 10mg is a low dose - he thought I'm doing ok on it but to take diazepam on holiday if I need it and to see him when back hols - he also said like you that the holiday will make a difference - I think also just speaking to him made a difference as I've been to several doctors at the practice  and have found him the only one to listen to me - will enjoy the holiday hopefully - best regards Susan
