Citalopram 12 weeks

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have been on citalopram for 12 weeks today, with minimal affect, 3 weeks 10mg, 9 weeks 20mg. My question is do I continue, have I given it long enough or is it time to try something else.

Definitely speak with your GP. I'm 3.5 weeks in and 2 weeks on 20mg, it was fine for 10bdays or so but the last few days have been bad, perhaps delayed side effects from the increase? Keep us posted

I know people say that you should stick with the same dose for about 8-12 weeks, but i'm just so unsure what to do. I don't want to increase as i suffered really bad with side effects when i started and they have only just settled down. How are you doing today?

Yeah they say that, and then for some it takes even longer to settle!

its just trial and error, today I'm very very tired, I take 20mg at 8am everyday and only now am ibfeeling such fatigue. I would say to stick with it, but speak to GP and go from there =)

4-6 weeks is suppose to be the timeline for the full therapeutic effect. I would call your dr to discuss. Ill be hitting the 5 week mark in a couple days and no improvement for me yet either.

I'm sorry to hear you are no better, what mg are you on, and how long have you been on it.

I've just increased to 25g last night, cause my low mood isnt shifting x

You still not feeling any better for the increase, perhaps the increase is too much, maybe try dropping down to 30mg, its a big jump from 20 to 40. You still suffering from side effects?

Is the depression lifting any yet, hopefully the side effects will calm down soon.

Just an update, i have spoken to the doctors today and seeing that i have had no significant improvement in the last couple of weeks, i have decided to increase my dose.

I feel i have given it enough time nearly 12 weeks to see if the 20mg is going to be enough. I am going to try 25g at first and see how i go on, as i suffered quite bad with side effects when i first started, so hopefully they wont be as bad as when i first started.
