Citalopram

i have been on and off of ssri's for years now. I'm an intelligent woman with a background in training in counselling and psychology. So i have a lot of understanding and knowledge of what 'should' work and in what way.
however we are all different. I would never use medication unless i had exhausted everything else, as i know the side effects far outweigh any benefits, for some time.
I have been taking Citalopram 10mg, for 4 weeks so far. I have zero energy, am hugely much more depressed, keep having angry outbursts (and im not an angry person), and whilst i do not have a dry mouth, my skin is so pale and dehydrated.
My face has also broken out in spots and i am 60, so this is the medication.
GP's do not do or say anything different to what we already know.
Sertraline was no good for me as it raised my anxiety levels even after 3 months on it.
I do not know whether to stick this out, or give up on it.

Hey, how are you holding up?
Did you start Cit for anxiety or depression, bit of both?
The first few weeks on Cit can be rough; increased anxiety, lethargy, poor appetite are common. I certainly got them in my first 4 weeks, and some of my symptoms felt worse than when I started.
But I did notice I didn't feel like crying for no reason like I did before, and the early side effects eased right off by 6 weeks.
So I'd say it's early days and to stick it out to 8 weeks, then to 12 weeks if you've seen improvements.
And I know you won't feel like it, but try to exercise for 30 mins twice a week at the least, it really helps.

sorry to hear of your current troubles kindredspirit, any improvement now or still having the same (or worse?) problems. it's so annoying the amount of trial and error we have to all go through since all these different meds seem to have a high variation of different effects on each of us, but you know all that. well it simply seems like the options here are to either carry on as you are, dose adjustment, adjunct, medication change, or looking at alternatives to medication. i hope things turn around for you as soon as possible
