Citalopram advice please

any advice would be welcome if you would be so kind. so i was was on 10 mg citalopram for about 7 weeks which i started before xmas last year. i didnt feel like they were helping that much so my doctor put me on 20 mg citalopram and ive been on it for about 18 days now. ive heard that when you start on a new dose you basically start from day 1 again and have to go through the whole process again. is that true? i feel like theyre working a tad but not where i want to be. is it worth waiting for another 6 weeks to see if i should up my dose if i feel i need to? its been a rough ride because for a month or so i had side effects and when i went on 20 mg my side effects came on again and its not good. also i cant seem to not stop gagging and i was just wondering if anyone has had this? is this a side effect because its awful. anyway thanks. hope someone can help me

I started on 10 mg of citalopram in the AM with .25 xanax and .5 xanax with 25 mg of Topiramate in the PM. Wasn't helping at all so the doctor upped me to 20 mg citalopram then 30. The first week of my taking the 30 I felt much much better. The passing out feeling stopped and the numbness and heavy arms and legs stopped. But now I get off and on inner shakes. I don't know if that is a side effect of one of my meds or just another lovely symptom . I have to talk with doctor again soon so I'm going to ask her about that. I know it's not the xanax because I have been taking that off and on for years. Hope you get some relief!

hi thanks for replying. i love this community that i found and its some relief we can all help each other and advise. i feel a little better now im on 20mg and its weird because ive only been on 20 for about 20 days. they say when changing doses you basically have to start all again. but yes i hope you get there on your own journey. just wish my gagging would stop and my appetite to come back. i drink every night just to try and numb everything and my doctor tells me off for it which hes right. i'll give these 20mg a month or so and if i feel like upping then ill ask my doctor about it. take care

hang in there its a long road and you have to let the meds work at each dose 4/6 weeks. i had the gagging thing its not pleasant but more an anxious thing than the meds just take it as part of the long term journey.

thanks so it is the meds that are making me gag? its horrible aint it. tried throwing up but nothing happened l, just made my stomach hurt with the tensing. but yeah could be mixture of both because anxiety can do that itself. i'll wait a month and see what my doctor says. thanks Mike, take care
