CITALOPRAM AND ALCOHOL

Posted , 3 users are following.

hello

I have been on 10mg citalopram for three weeks now and have had no alcohol for about 4 weeks . I am off for a week in the sun and obviously will want a few glasses of wine while I am away, I won't get drunk or anything but will want to drink a bit. Do you think this will be ok, does anyone else drink while taking it?

I would appreciate any advice

kind regards

    Marie,

I tool citalopram for 8 months, i drink most days, not a huge amount, 2-3 pints, ive been told by the docs that this severely hampered the tablets working? anyway, i dont take them anymore and i still enjoy my pint. I never really went drink free so i dont know if the tablets would work that well, i did feel an improvement though while on tabs, for me i just dont feel in myself like i need the tabs, my moods fluctuate, high and low, but i just carry on, anyway my point is that a moderate few drinks would be fine, i didnt have any bad reactions when having a beer and on tabs.

Funnily enough, unlike Kimoli i could drink more, i guess it just shows how we all react so differently to this drug, anything in tiny moderation surely cant hurt but if u unsure a quick visit to the gp should put any doubts at rest.

    Hi Marie

I drank when I was on Citalopram and I can't say it made any difference.

It's important to remember though that everyone will react differently to these tablets and your reaction will include many factors including your height, weight and build and what your tolerance for alcohol was before you started on the pills.

10MG is a low dose, but if you've not had a drink in four weeks you might feel it the first time you try alcohol with the pills.

Obviously you want to enjoy yourself while you're away, so if you do decide you want a drink, just take it easy and don't overdo it - give yourself a while to find your tolerance.

    Most importantly - have a great h :D liday!!

I been on cit for 4 mths - 20mg/day. Always been a drinker - about 5 pints a day, more sometimes. Found i get intoxicated quicker, and the short-term memory issues are more noticeable.

Done a few days off the beer whilst on cit, but found I was still anxious so reached for the bottle after a bit. Now starting to wean myself off cit, but still have a script so if it goes bad i'll be back - maybe.
