Citalopram and Anti inflammatory

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi All,

Looking for some advise/help. I'm on 30mg Citalopram and have pulled a pelvic/groin muscle. Ive been having pain killers but would like to take an anti inflammatory such as Ibrufophen but apparently you cant take the two together. Does anyone know of an anti inflammatory alternative I can take? or a natural ant inflammatory alternative?

Other times I have seen an interaction, I have managed to find an alternative. This time I cant find one.

Thanks for the help.

when i collected my citalopram a few weeks ago the pharmacist told me not to take ibuprofen with it but he then said that if i needed to take it short term for a few days i could but to take it with food? Maybe speak to a pharmacist or GP as they may advise the same?

    Hi,

I've been on citalopram 20mg for many, many years and my GP also prescribes Naproxen, an anti-inflammatory for muscular pain. My GP has never highlighted any concerns about taking both together?

    Hi,

Ive been taking citalopram on and off for 10 years, I never knew of this and have been taking ibuprofen as needed in the past.

I only found out about what you mention recently when i went to a new Doctor who happened to mention it as I went in with back pain. He prescribed omeprazole to take before the Ibuprofen. Hope this helps

What pain killers are you already on?

The concern with taking NSAIDs like Ibuprofen while on Citalopram is that they can increase your risk of bleeding or gastric ulcers. That's also a normal precaution with NSAIDs anyway.

I'm on 20mg Citalopram and have taken ibuprofen while on it without drama.

I would say as long as you take it at the suggested dose, usually every 6 hrs I think, for no longer than 2 weeks you should be OK.
