Citalopram brand change. Accord to milpharm... Side effects back.

Anyone felt a difference when you've been prescribed a different brand of citalopram? Overall the ingredients are the same, but it's known that the coating can vary somewhat and its been giving me a icky tummy again... Anyone else had this? I have called the doctor to ask for another prescription of my other brand. Accord being the brand I started on and was doing very well on up until 4 days ago when I started this new one. Very odd.

Basically different pharmaceuticals that process and make medication. So I had been taking 10mg citalopram made by a pharmaceutical company named accord. But my recent prescription was packaged differently and even the size of the tablet was different and it was by a pharmaceutical company called milpharm. The doctor said that they sometimes use different cutting events or film coating which (if you have a sensitive tummy like me) can cause a reaction. Not everyone will feel the difference between difference brands, but I certainly did. Within 24 hours. That's how sensitive my tummy is. There are many different ones and pharmacies like lloyds and boots extra cant choose what brands they are sent, it's a way to keep costs down I think. But now I've made sure they've put on my repeat prescription that it has to be the same brand each time.

Yes, and I felt a difference - when I called the GP to say I was feeling odd they were the one who actually brought up the brand change, turned out they'd had another patient that week with similar issues and they'd had a brand change too.

I don't think there's 'good' or bad 'brands', I think it's more to do with consistency and yes, the fillers can be different but more importantly I think the bioavailability of the active ingredient can vary a little between brands so effectively it's like a tiny dose change.

Hopefully getting your original brand will settle you quite quickly.

Coincidentally, I have Accord and it was switching to Teva that affected me.

    Hi Hope,

I have had the same problem with the Milpharm brand. Total symptom relapse and actually started withdrawing from the drug with nausea, no appetite, headaches, chills, brain zaps, no libido amongst other things.

It's not just about the packing agents of the drugs, but also the bioequivalence and this is definitely off with the Milpharm brand.
