Citalopram - coming off them after around 10 years

I was prescribed Citalopram around ten or more years ago for anxiety and depression. it was more for the anxiety really and i don't think it really helped that much. I stayed on it as my doctor had mentioned that maybe I was just one of those people who needed to stay on it forever. I was started on 20mg and then increased to 40mg. I decided a couple of years ago that I wanted to come off the Citalopram and my doctor gave me about a six week plan. I had been on Citalopram many years ago, and I knew from experience that I would need to take things much slower. i managed to reduce down by halving my doses for a few months at a time, until I was down to 10mg per day. However, I decided that I would take a break from the reducing, and stayed on that for about a year or so. I think I was also scared that if I went lower that some of the dreaded brain zaps would start. Anyhow, a few months ago, I decided to start reducing again. I did this by taking my tablets every other day. I seemed to have no problems with this, and eventually I moved it to every three days. I reduced this further, by cutting the pills on half and therefore taking 5mg every 3 days. again, I did not seem to have any problems and then moved this to 5mg every four days. that was about 3 weeks ago. I accidentally missed a dose, and decided to see what would happen if I didn't take the Citalopram. everything seemed fine, so I skipped that dose as well. I have now not taken any Citalopram for about 10 days. I am still expecting the brain zaps of other withdrawal effects to kick in, but I was wondering when this would likely happen. I have read that some people get the withdrawal effects after 5 days. I can't remember what happened when I came off the medication when I was on it years ago, but I do remember the brain zaps! When could I say that I was officially off of them - how long would that need to be? thanks for any help that anyone can give me and sorry for such a long question.
