Citalopram dose increase 20mg to 30mg

I've been on 20mg of citalopram for at least 5 years. My anxiety had worsened over the past 6 months and I've just today been to the doctors who increased my dose to 30mg.

I have emetaphobia (fear of being sick) and am worried that the new dose will cause side effects including nausea and vomiting

Has anyone increased their dose and not had any effect? Especially after being on them for so long?

Why don’t you just do a 2.5mg increase every few weeks to minimize side effects.

Everyone is different, but I've never had an vomiting from increasing doses. What side effects did you experience when you first started taking Citalopram? Chances are you'll get the similar effects from a dose increase, but on a much smaller scale and not for as long :-)

I don't remember any side effects the first time around to be honest so hopefully you are right smile

I had my dosage increased from 20mg to 30mg after being on 20mg for an year. It was bad for around 3-4 weeks (anxiety, insomnia, etc. - similar to what you experience when you start citalopram)... not exactly what you wanted to hear, but in the end it was worth it! Everyone reacts differently, but if you start to feel more anxious on 30mg for the first few weeks tell yourself it's the sprint before the end of the race. Overall, I'm MUCH better off on 30mg than 20.

    Good luck!
