Citalopram hasn't worked for me

Has anyone else been on Citalopram for more than 6 weeks and find it hasn't done anything to help. Im not sure if I need to give it longer but I really don't feel any better, I have an appointment booked with my doc soon.

Yeah I don't feel much different, which is annoying but I will give it time, I always find that when I wake up in the morning the anxiety is quite bad but that is the only side effect I get now x

I get that and have been on this for over 3 years, I hope it disappears for you. I get my head around the morning anxiety by treating it as a physical symptom so can deal with it, its not easy and its taken me a long time to deal with my side effects.

Count recovery in months, not weeks. It took 6 months for me to recover and didn't notice anything happening until around 3 months. For some people its even longer. People often don't notice anything happening because its so subtle and you expect to just feel less anxious. It doesn't work like that - usually small things happen like sleep is better, don't feel so tense, appetite better etc etc and you probably don't put this down as recovery.
Throughout recovery the anxiety will come and go - and again people often think they're ill again and so up their dose. This is just normal and how recovery works.
6 weeks is really early still - never underestimate just how long this takes. It takes a long time to be ill and so it'll take a long time for it to be reversed.
Stick with it - head down and plod on. It will get better.

Chaz, it has taken me a good twelve weeks to begin feeling a bit more like myself.
At six weeks, you most likely won't be skipping around like a spring lamb yet.
When you say you don't feel 'any better', what do you mean? What were your symptoms before starting, and what are they now?

Ok thank you, just wasn't sure what to expect my doc said it would take a few weeks but I haven't noticed any difference yet.
I mean I still get anxious, but the medication does take awhile to work I guess, before I use to hate going public places and talking to people but I hope this will improve

It will work. Bear in mind that on the leaflet/docs tend to be waaaay too ambitious about how fast the medication will work, for most people.
I upped my dose in June, and it's only now, in September, that I actually feel like being around other people again. Anxiety hasn't gone yet, but it's not interfering in my life as much as it was. You will improve. Little steps.
Honestly, give it time, you will feel better. This forum is a great support 😊
