i have been prescribed 10mg of citalopram for anxiety while i wait to see an endocrinologist in august for hyperthyroidism. I have only been on them for 5 days but i have started waking up really anxious and agitated? Is this normal and will it get better?

Hi Beverley/your anxiety will still be there until 8/10 weeks whilst the medication gets up to speed. You will have too be patience til l then .Give the medication a chance to work and then then the effects will show.

Totally normal, please don't worry. Everyone is so different, some people get over the jitters in a matter of days, some in a matter of weeks, for some quite a few weeks.

It takes about a couple of weeks for these meds to get to a stable level in your blood, and a bit more to feel their full benefit.

The anxiety is an unfortunate start up side effect, but it will go.
