citalopram relapsing after being on 10mg for 6 months

hi guys,

Its my first time posting but ive used these forums as a great source of info for some months.

About 7 years ago over the course of about 4 days i developed a severe anxiety condition that was likely GAD, this was quite scary for this to suddenly appear after nearly 30 years of your life. Anyway i got pescribed citalopram 20mg and after about 7 months id made a full recovery.

Fast forward about about 7 years and exact same thing happened so i went back on citalopram 20mg for about a year and then for the last 6 months id moved down to 10mg, the anxiety was still there but i was very manageable, that was until this week where again I woke up monday and again, out of the blue i felt terrible; 4am waking, pounding heart, tinitus, instrusive thoughts and filled with complete dread. Ive felt like this for about 7 days now and ive been weighing up moving back up 20mg but wondered if this kind lf relapse has happened to anyone else and how they managed it?

Ive got GP appointment but not for 3 weeks and as most anxiety suffers will know- that feels like a lifetime when its severe.

hi it certainly seems reasonable to consider going to 20mg citalopram, which is a usual common dose for treating depression and anxiety. if u are feeling very bad now though can u not phone your doctor and get the 20mg prescription sooner?its obviously not good to have to suffer through the next 3 weeks, and it might mean the dose increase may take longer to work if you dont get on top of this all sooner rather than later
