Citalopram - Sertraline hopeful story that started with many negatives.

4 week update.

4 weeks ago I changed from Citalopram to Sertraline 50mg.

Citalopram wasn't helping my anxiety enough but increasing the dose to 20mg just didn't suit me at all as I am sensitive to medication in general. (This is not a negative about Citalopram, it works for many and worked for me a few years back)

The worst side effects were heightened anxiety, muscle twitching and hypnic jerks when falling to sleep. I had nights where every time I nodded off I would jerk awake. Looking back I think I did well to keep going!

Gradually my anxiety has lessened and so have these side effects. My appetite is back big style and I feel so much better. I am sleeping straight through the night again.

I hope things carry on going this way for me now.

I just wanted to a) give people hope and b) remind people how strong these medications are and how you really do have to push through the side effects to get to the good bit!

    Thats great news Aimee!

ive been on Citalopram for 4 weeks (2 weeks at 20mg and 2 weeks at 30mg). i havent noticed any benefits yet do may end up switching.

    Was the switching ok?

    Thanks xx

Yes switching was fine, I did have side effects the first two weeks and anxiety was heightened but then it just went away. Its like magic. I was on citalopram from december last year and it didn't touch my anxiety to be honest. However, for you 4 weeks is still early, I would give it longer to see if it settles for you. Citalopram worked for me 6yrs ago not sure why it hasn't this time. However with sertraline I feel it works on anxiety much better for me. Its hard because everyone is different and there aren't any right or wrong answers unfortunately! I hope you find something that works for you soon x

Did you do a taper i did it opposite way round straight onto sertraline and after about 6 weeks started getting new symptoms couldn't take the sertraline. Just started back on citalopram. Hope sertraline continues to work for you they all seem work differently for different people.
