Citalopram small updose problems

First time poster looking for reassurance. About a year ago I started on Citalopram 10mg for GAD and seasonal affective disorder. The first 3-4 weeks were rough, but ultimately made a huge positive difference in my life. On this dose, I felt good likely 80% of the time as apposed to about only 20% of the time before taking the meds. About a month ago however i had a pretty major blip that really debilitated me for a couple of days during a crucial work event, and so in hopes of reducing that problem I made a minor increase to my dose from 10mg to 12.5 mg (quartering pills.) However, it has now been 18 days since my increase and I feel as horrible as I did when I first starting taking 10mg in the first place. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this and if I just need to ride it out or try and go back down to 10.

Best,

Anxiety Guy

The word on this forum is every increase in dose will set in motion an escalation of side effects even when you have been on the meds for months.

2.5 mg seems like a very small increase but that's the word on the street here Bro, but I must say that I personally think you were very lucky to get such a positive result so early in your treatment

That makes me think it could be the med for you if you get the dose right

As for your choice of riding it out or going back down.......bear in mind if you go back down chances are that if at any point your doc recommends an increase in dose you will most likely notice it even although you have been taking them for months....in other words, you would have to face the anxiety and stuff further down the road

The choice is yours but if you ask me you were getting a reasonable result on the 10mg and we all have these blips. Chances are the longer you are on the tens the better it will settle in your system and may be in the long run the correct dose for you

Wishing you well my man. I am new to this place and don't know sh*t, there maybe someone more qualified than me to come along and help you out

    Wishing you well

Thanks for the reply Saltire, I guess where I'm at is trying to decide if I need to go up or stay where I'm at really. Doc agreed that going up to 15mg would be ok but I remember it took about 3-4 weeks when I first started for the meds to really kick in and help so I'm thinking I might try to ride out 12.5mg for a little bit longer since 10mg worked for so long, and I like the idea of keeping my dosage low for when / if I come off the meds. I hope that you are doing well 😃
