I swapped a little while ago now. Was on citalopram for about a year and it did nothing for me. switched to sertraline and I began to feel the difference after a couple of weeks, but it can take a couple of months to start feeling anything. I'm still taking it, still working on things but its made massive difference to me, so much more then citalopram ever did.

      thank you for replying x

I was on 20mg for 4 years and was doing really well and it just popped out and stopped working

I've been on 40mg for 12 weeks and was starting to feel a little better and just completely crashed again

so my doc wants me to swap to sertraline

did you have any withdrawal from citalopram?

hi , i swapped over about 10 week ago feel almost back to my old self , its worked wonders for me

can I ask why you swapped if that's ok? I'm worried I'm going to get withdrawals because I've been on citalopram so long.

      thank you

i was on 20mg for a year and half then xmas i just got really bad with anxiety and depression got upped to 30 mg and got worse over the next 3 month. The dr switched me to sertraline 50mg

that's pretty much the same here just keep getting worse

I'm happy for you that you seem to be on the mend so that's really good!

      was it hard swapping over?

no i switched straight over no tapering down, Just took about 8 weeks til i started to feel alot better, best thing i have done switching but everyones different i suppose

thanks again. I've just gotta be brave and just do it I suppose.

its terrifying me tbh because I'm really worried about getting worse than i already am.

i dont know if i could deal with withdrawals tbh.were you worried about switching over?

terrified, i was at rock bottom, i just thought i had nothing to lose couldnt feel worse than i did, it did take a while to work so if you do switch it might take a while like it did wi me to start working

thanks x I was starting to feel a bit better but I've just crashed again so I definitely think the citalopram isn't doing the same job for me anymore.

8 weeks feels like such a long time doesn't it!

how early did you start thinking that they might work for you? was it 8 weeks before you noticed anything?

it was after the first couple of week just changes id gone from only sleeping 3-4 hours a night to sleeping til my alarm, and appetite came back, worst thing iv ever gone thru tbh , wouldnt wish it upon anyone

that was when i was on citalopram not the sertraline

being on citalopram was the worst thing you've been through?

that's how I feel at the minute.my anxiety is through the roof and crying an awful lot. did you have any benzo or beta blockers to help you when you swapped x

I dropped my citalopram from 40-20 today so I've already started and I'm pooping my pants.

      thanks again x

never had no benzo all iv had wa 10mg phernegan and for the night for the first 2 weeks and i had some propranolol when i needed them but tried not to have them. i paid private for cbt but that was useless did nothing for me , id read everything they was telling me n £80 an hr for pleasure lol .

how did you get on with the propanalol? did you find it made your mood lower? I wasn't sure if it was in my head or not.

some people swear by cbt but I haven't really noticed a difference since going tbh. £80 an hour? that's mad expensive!

just eased the anxiety a little wasnt anything great , it did make my mood a little lower. Got to think its only temporary we all get better

that's why I try not to take it,unless I'm having a really bad day.

I hope you're right lol because I told myself that when I upped my dose to 40mg.

      fingers crossed.

dropped to 20mg today and dont feel any different yet. x

40 mg is a strong dose, when i got upped to 30mg i thought i would be find but it made everything worse thats why i think the sertraline took so long to work as i went thru hell for 3 months

it takes so long to see what you should do doesn't it?

this has been ongoing for 6 months now I'm surprised I'm still going tbh.

sounds like 30mg was definitely too high for you for sure.

I thought I was getting better but it was so slow and minimal. then I just crashed again.

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. it's so scary and it's nice to hear from someone who knows what it's like.

      x

no problem, i wouldnt rush up doses , for me i could see slight improvements after a few weeks but the light didnt start switching on til at least 8 weeks.

I'm definitely not going to rush it. it's hard to be patient when you feel so crap though. so have you settled ok on 50mg of sertraline?thank you. I'm pretty worried but I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and just do it I suppose. 😓

yes i think 50 mg is doing the trick i dont feel 100% about 80% but definately on the right track

that's really good to hear! let's hope its all uphill for you now and you can get a little closer to that 100 percent
