    Hi Nicola

Yes I'm taking 5-HTP and having good results.  Like you, I also took Citalopram for about 15 years and came off 2 years ago and took 5-HTP, but had to restart Cit due to the stress of family illness.  I spent this last year coming off again going from 20 / 15 / 10 / 5 / 2.5 / 1.25 / 0, and have been on 5-HTP for about 2 months maybe now?  Withdrawing this slow I had no withdrawal effects at all this time around.

You need to take l-tyrosine too as it supports 5-HTP - both bought over the counter.  I bought a book on 5-HTP which I can private message you about (not allowed to mention it on here as post will get deleted).  The book was very informative, explains how your body deals with serotonin and how 5-HTP and SSRI's work.  Found it really interesting and easy to read.

I noticed you were on 50mg Cit ....... the maximum dose is 40mg in the UK, as high doses have been reported to cause heart problems.  Also yes ..... as you found out, going cold turkey is not recommended at all ..... but you're off now wink  Hope all is well.

You have to be off SSRI's completely before taking 5-HTP.  You can start, stop these without having to wean on or withdraw (though some people maybe do find slight changes, but nothing like the prescription ones), and they also work quicker too - within a couple of weeks apparently.  They worked soon for me.  There's also no side effects like with prescriptions ones (though again some people might be susceptible to slight changes), but I haven't had anything.

Hi Nicola, I too have started on 5htp with great results as far as sleep quality and general feeling of wellness, less anxiety but also an elevated blood pressure which could be an issue if your on bp meds.otherwise, I think it is a great alternative to chemical castration, for me at least .

I get u J. I did too and still have my moments but taking the 5htp is really making it a lot easier. Hang in their. I started 5htp the day after I stopped cit and am now on day 15 of cold turkey and it's getting better by the day. Some days I don't leave my home and don't see anybody but that's by choice. It works to have time out. It takes a while for the chemicals to leave yr system completely. I'm still getting brain zaps by the way. Hoping they will stop soon.

Good luck my friend ad keep strong
