Citolopram an heart issues?
Posted , 3 users are following.
I've been on Citolopram for 20 days on 20mg. 10mg for 7 days before that. My Anxiety has gotten bad last couple days. Eating all time to! Im not motivated to do much. One day feel like a zombie next day crying. No real side effects. No bowel issues. No headaches. Iv got Klonapine (anti-anxiety) med for when needed. Im under EXTREME STRESS RT NOW. Now Iv heard an read this med can cause heart probs on down line. Is this true? I mean has anyone heard this? What I read was doses at 60mg an up. This is med #7. So only things left are Effexor, Trintellix, Pristiq,...this is my last hope before going to those. Zoloft, Cymbalta, Lexapro,Prozac,Wellbutrin XL an Lamictal were no goes. Either no mental help, severe anger, or severly physically ill like a toxicity with liver enzymes raising, etc...Cymbalta did help with my fibromyalgia pain but made blood pressure go sky high! At first was taking 20mg Citolopram at night, then switched to morning now back at night. It seems to help me sleep better but hard time getting up. I do have a tip for insomnia suffets. Unisome! Any info an how people are doing on an how long an mg's would be appreciated!

Hi Zio/Sasha, I have read that it can raise blood pressure but only 50 mg +. Anxiety can make you feel like you have heart issues but after taking 20 mg of Citalopram for the last 5 weeks the tightness in my chest and racing heart have gone back to normal.
Sasha I was worried about the tiredness and mentioned it to my GP after taking 20 mg for 3 weeks. He suggested taking the tablet at night, but I didn't because I sleep well since taking Cit (I take it at 9 am) and didn't want to mess that up, but 2 weeks later and the tiredness has gone away now thankfully and I no longer need to have naps in the day. Hopefully yours will in time.
Goodluck

Thankyou all for responses. Sometimes I feel alone. My friends an family dont understand (why should they! They dont have this, i dont think!) An I think its beginning to be a"bother" to hear anything about me. Like Im Debbie Downer or something! But Thats what I dooo want to talk about. A sympathetic ear. I do sometimes not say anything an just say "im fine. Im great. Not a bad day" when it really sucked an then ask him how they are. I guess Im the masked lady! My very best friends son killed himself almost 2 yrs ago this May. Bi-polar. 22yrs old. At first I supported them in every way I knew how.(they in another city 10 hrs away) i made sure I didnt cross any lines an asked her on certain things how she felt like me walking in mental awareness march in her son's honor an for me. She said that would be lovely an he would be honored. She knows, before her son passed, that I have depression and anxiety but these ladt 6 months its like she has pulled away. Like she doesn't want anything yo do with mental health or anything sad. Her FB is all bubbles an adopting her running friends kid an doin things with him on FB! Never texts me how Im doin or anything. Hardly an any FB replying. I recently told her text wise that Im fighting with sister over care of my parent's. I'd say lukewarm response. So im getting the picture. She doesn't want to deal with me. I think thats pretty harsh. We've known each other for over 30 yrs!!. So be it! I'm still blah everday. Anxiety still hovering. Day 22. I did get a gift card to a spa. So Im going to schedule a massage. But, rt now both parent's have issues with health an my youngest has Dyslexia an major tests coming an we really try to assist when he needs.
Goodluck to all still wanting to know about anyone else out there about hear issues an this med!

Hi Zio, I know how you feel. Life can feel lonely sometimes even with people around you. These sites are good because the people you speak to understand what you are going through. I think your friend is probably just trying to deal with her loss and i'm sure she cares deeply for you but is unable to deal with mental health issues as you say. It's harsh but it may be her only way of coping.
Recovery from anxiety and depression is in months not weeks but it gets gradually better with every week that passes. That said you still get ups and downs but they say that the downs get less and the ups more.
So here's hoping. I've been on the Cit 6 weeks Sunday which is still early days also but they have definately helped me so far. I'm not back to my old self but it took long term stress to get me here so it will probably take some time to get back to 'normal'
Enjoy your massage, that will definately help you relax but also a walk, watching a good movie, a bath etc something that relaxes you is.
Take care and stay strong!

Wondering how you an everyone is doing. Im still on 20mg . If I take in morning Im so sleepy I just want to lay down . Still feel blah. No energy on almost 5 wks come Wed the 15th. Eating all time!! I did read Citolopram has a half life of 35 hrs. So half of one pill not in system till 35 hrs. So longer acting antidepressant. An harder to get off. You need to go very slow weaning off. Iv come off Cymbalta twice. Not fun. So giving another wk or 2 then moving on to med #8. Im getting depressed even thinking about it. That I wont find a med to fit me. Just down rt now. I need one that will help with anxiety but give energy also but not manic an give me hope fr black thinking. Neg thinking. Something to look forward to. Still under depressing stress rt now with my Elderly parent's. I love them dearly. An my husband an I are struggling financially. Might need food stamps. No insurance either. Thanks to Obamacare. Glad he's gone. Bless us all struggling with mental health.

Hi Zio, I'd stopped feeling tired by week 5 but we all respond diffrently to medication. I've also heard Citalopram is hard to come off and you need to do it gradually. People suggest dropping 5 mg every month but I dont know whether this applies if you are changing medication. Personally i'd stick with the Citalopram. It could well just be taking longer to settle in your system. Even someone that doesn't suffer from anxiety and depression gets down and anxious in times of stress, so remember the medication is having to work hard.
My husband and I are also struggling financially. We are from Liverpool, England - we also have our Government to thank for that.
Take care and feel free to chat if ever you need to - i'm always around.

Weird weather. I didn't know you got snow in Texas. It's winter here but rarely goes below 30 deg. I've also been on Fluoxetine in the past which worked well but this time my anxiety was worse so i needed something that treated the anxiety. Have you tried Fluoxetine, it didn't make me so drowsy.

Fluoxetine serve me well. I was on it over 2 years and then didn't need any medication for the next 10 years but we all react diffrently.
Hope you get some improvements on the Cit as it must be so hard changing medications.
