CKD

I went to see my GP the other day and whilst I was there I was asked to give a sample of my urine. I told him I couldn't Pee on demand and I'd drop it back off later. Please make sure you do he said we need to check the protien level. I just never gave it a second thought, but during the day I began to wonder why.

Having returned my sample at evening surgery I asked his wife why I had been asked to give a sample. She replied its because you have CKD!

What? since when I cried and what is it?

She then went on to tell me I had had it since March of this year. Why wasn't I told about this CKD, she just looked at me and said you'll have to ask Doctor.

I was flabbergasted to say the least, I have since looked it up on the net and to my relief its not as bad as I feared, but I can't understand why I wasn't told I had it in the first place!

Is this serious remiss on my GP's part or what?

Much the same as you i had a routine blood test 5 years ago and this showed protein in my urine,i was sent to see a consultant at my local renal unit and was told i had slightly reduced kidney function,so i asked how reduced, about 50% was the answer but said it might not get any worse.

I am now at CKD stage 4 with a GFR of 27 and have been told i will need to start dialysis when it drops to 17 .

I have done everything i can to try and slow the progression but looks like the kidneys are eventually going to fail.

Make sure you ask your doctor whats going on with your bloods and dont let them fob you off like they used to with me,i wasnt sent for a renal biopsy until i was stage 4 ended up having two of those due to problems during the first.

    Take care.

I have had only one kidney for 54 years and was shocked to be diagnosed with CKD Stage 3 three years ago, eGFR 50. It has been stable at 50 for those 3 years but today have been told it is at 44, with a low creatinine, whereas it was at 50 just in September last. I felt that was a fast drop and feel quite worried. It was a rheumatologist who informed me of this today but he said it was nothing to worry about and it could simply be that I was not hydrated enough when I had the blood test, adding that the renal consultants only get concerned when it drops below 40! Any advice would be most welcome please.

    Hello Moderator

I received an email notification from you yesterday with a link to a post from someone called Julie asking for people to contact her from this thread for research purposes. That link is now not leading back to that post - have you removed it for some reason please?

    Hi MrsO,

Yes as it is site policy to not show posts asking for volunteers for research, complete surveys etc. It is on my agenda to ask if these type of posts may be allowed in a separate area from the main discussions. The problem is most users use these froums for advice etc and do not want to be treated as "guinea pigs" but other users would be happy to take part.

On the main patient.info site we now show clinical trials available, see https://patient.info/clinical-trials. I will send you a private message with details from Julie's post if you do wish to contact her.

    Regards,

    Alan

Thank you Alan for your prompt reply. I do understand, and appreciate, the need for 'protection' here. I had read Julie's post late last night and had intended replying this morning asking her for background information relating to her request. I have looked at the link you posted with interest - thank you for that. It doesn't suggest that Julie is involved in any of the trials mentioned, so I will be interested if you have any further details, please.

    Many thanks again, Alan.

    Hi All

Im after abit of advice really, nearly 2 weeks ago I found a lump near my groin, my doctor requested urgent blood tests as he said it felt like my lymph that was swollen. The next morning I received a phone call with the results, My full blood count was abnormal but no further action and my eGFR was 57, now Im a 26 year old white female and from what Ive read about this is souds uncommon for aomeone of my age without it been serious, I have to repeat the blood tests in a month. Please can anyone advise what this is likely to mean as Im very worried as my BP the other day was 149/93. Any thoughts??
