    Hi...

Carbonated mineral water is not harmful., excerpt from The Mayo Clinic

In reality there's no good evidence that carbonated water causes harm to your bones. The confusion may arise because of research that found a connection between carbonated cola drinks and low bone mineral density. But this association wasn't seen with noncola carbonated drinks. So if you like the bubbles, you can keep sipping your carbonated water.

If you're open to trying other types of water, there's some promising research that mineral waters with calcium may actually benefit your bones.

    hi

I have been diagnosed with ckd stage 3, i am 34 years old. The raeson i went to the doctors to begin with was severe pins and needles/ tingling in my hands, feet and lower legs. I am still waiting to see the nephrologist, but have had scans of my kidneys in preperation. I wanted to ask though does anyone one else suffers these symptoms as the last week or two its become increasingly worse, and i have a constant pain also in the right side of my back like someone is kneeling on my kidney. I have booked to see my doctor again on monday as my hospital appointmet is not untill end of april but am unsure if they will do anything as i have low blood pressure.

    Hi Laura

I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with CKD3 - do you know what your eGFR reading is? If it is only a little below 60 then many doctors say it isn't a cause for concern.

Have you been tested for diabetes as that can cause pins and needles. Untreated it can also cause kidney problems.

If you doctor felt concerned, I would have thought he could have got you a more urgent appointment with the nephrologist than wait until the end of April.

Hope you get some reassurance at your GP appointment on Monday.

    Hi

Thanks for your reply, my gfr is 45 the reason my appointment is end of April is that the doctors referred me to a urologist by mistake hence the delay but they are currently trying to bring my appointment forward. I have been tested for diabetes on numerous occasions but I keep coming back clear

    Hello again Laura

I assume the diabetes tests have been fasting ones and not just the finger-prick test. At least your eGFR reading of 45 is still well within the CKD3 range. Mine is 47 but I am a lot older than you and with just one kidney. Blood pressure monitoring is important too. I hope your appointment comes through soon so that you can have the reassurance of an expert - meanwhile, drink plenty of water and go easy on the salt. Lots of good luck wishes.

    Hi,

I have had 4, 5 been on dialysis and have recently had a transplant I am not a doctor nor am Imedically trained but I have been through the mill lol and come out the other side still fighting. I would be happy to talk to you about my own experience just remember we are all different so what has happened to one through the stages may not happen to you.

Hi Deb, I'm also on Stage 4, only 6 weeks ago I was Stage 2 eGFR65 now I'm eGFR 30. It's a merry go round this disease, as even though my results have plummeted I feel fine I really am not ill at all even though I see the Renal team tomorrow I'm a bit apprehensive because I might after start dialysis. I hope not though. Anyway I see your post was over a year ago so how are you now? Well I hope.

    Hi Deb,

My stepdad has stage 4 CKD and been on dialysis for 5 months now. He's been really struggling. I wanted to follow up with you to see how you're holding up. I know this reply is five yrs later. Please reply back to let me know that you're still here, ok.
