The way my PT explained was to lie on my good side. I started with a yellow band and it was placed just above my knees and then just open and close my knees like a clam shell. I am now using a red band. This exercise has really helped strengthen my flutes along with outer thigh muscles. I hope this helps!

Sounds like abduction exercise for the leg, either lying down or standing and opening leg sideways from the knee.

You tube has videos of how to do it

    Hi alicia

if you want to see how it is done. If you can get it look for an app called pocket physio.  It shows how to do it correctly on there with videos.

It doesn't involve a rubber band but will show you the correct position

    hope that helps

    Hi Alicia

I saw a video on line and it explained it in a very clear way.

Look for the Clamshell Exercise on you tube. It is the video of a woman laying on a blue mat wearing a pink top and blue leggings. There is another woman (physio) kneeling behind her with a pony tail.

Alicia - Michael posting about youtube video, he has the right idea there. Two points the physio said to me and showed me, keep your ankles together, and just open your knees. Also on your hip with the same side hand, just behind you side seam line of your undies, flat hand, and feel for the muscle twitching, even if you cannot lift your knee, as I couldn't for months, I could feel the muscle twitching, as the video explains getting into the right position is important otherwise you are not using the right muscles.
