Clay coloured stools

Hi since the colonoscopy I am having regular clay coloured stools and even beforehand I never had dark stools - more medium Brown

Sick to death of worrying seems like I get the clear of colon cancer - yet now this. I hope my pancreas is okay (please no details of what to worry about re this as I never look up cancer symptoms - I'm

Too much of a worrier but I saw something about colour of stools and heard clay coloured is not good)

I am not eating much red meat I wonder if this is a contributing factor? I'm also home made eating soup with pumpkin potatoes and spinach?

I cheated on the weekend and had scones and cream - 3 days later boom this morning looshish stools. If I have an allergy to cream or the scones wouldn't it be immediately if he affected on the toilet? Or is it just the digestive process of that food just going though now? It says it takes up to 53 hours for your food to come out?

Sorry for my anxiety banter.

After being very ill one Easter I had black stools and was referred to the hospital where he said I was fine and probably diet and stress causing the problem. If unsure check with your doc but mood stress and diet can all have an effect is what I found out and panic makes it worse.

No other medication apart from lexapro - and digestive enyemes b12 and a multivitamin

I had semonella 6 months ago and weird stools ever since but recent colonoscopy and endoscopy showed nothing

It may be your diet or the prep before your colonoscopy and the disruption to your bowel that the procedure caused.  It does take time for your colon to recover after this. If there had been anything nasty in your bowel, the colonoscopy would have picked it up.  My stools changed colour and shape when they became loose and I was very stressed and worried at that time waiting for diagnosis.

You have had all the tests and everything was negative; the only thing you can do now is to try and relax and manage your IBS.  The other possibility is the Flagyl you are taking.  This is a very potent antibiotic. Maybe this is causing your stool colour to change.  When you finish the course, your stool may change back again.

      Hi pippa

Haven't started the tablets yet - I know they make you feel awful so will hold off for a week then start - all I'd need is to feel ill.

I've got a bit of a cold and feel a tad nauseous so don't also want to feel worse. Maybe feeling anxious has made me feel that way plus today I had a slight flare up on the toilet, I think hopefully that was because I had cream and scones on the weekend. First time in a long time I've had dairy and non gluten flour.

I think I do agree with the gastro doctor think it's def sibo or PI IBS

Oh next life I never want to be a worrier.

Love your replies they are always reassuring

Dairy is an IBS trigger for some.  If you eat a food that disagrees with you, the IBS flare up can last for a few hours or even days. When you start your antibiotics, if they make you feel worse, stop them and ask your doctor for something else or ask if you really need them at all.

Is it IBS then if I don't get instant problems after eating something? My stools tend to react a couple days later - I rarely run to the toilet immediately ever after a food trigger. And I rarely have had pains. So different to most ibs sufferers.

I just seem very sensitive to think since the infection 6 months ago.

Probably just have to live with it - stick to a non gluten diet. Avoid a lot of meat and possibly oranges or fruits - I had a large glass of fresh orange juice the other day - maybe that's not good for me

I need to find some sweet things non gluten to put on some weight

I can't see to put on any weight since the infection.

Sometimes you don't get a reaction until the day afterwards or sometimes you react immediately after eating a trigger food.  When I get stressed, sometimes the pain starts immediately or hours later or even a day later.  It is all to do with the unpredictability of IBS and our own individual responses to it. Remember, you were diagnosed with IBS and nothing else more sinister, so you have nothing to worry about.
