Cleared for surgery!!

Went in today to see the surgeon, he went over a few things. My surgeon in close to 70 super nice guy but even after having a total knee he refuses to take pain meds!! I told him after going thru this 5X I feel lots of pain so please keep that in mind when I need pain meds. He said I will be in the hospital 3 days ? and after 3 months I should be feeling better. I agree but I am not going to feel like a million dollars either it is still going to be sore and at times painful. After I was done with him had some more labs done and given some stuff to start 5 days prior to surgery to prevent infection. Not too much longer 11 days from now I will be in bed with my knee all wrapped up. Fun Fun!!

It isn’t much fun at all. Pain meds are definitely needed. I’m at week 4 and still take them. Just do the exercises and ice as often as you can. Good luck with your surgery

At least you know have a path ahead for your knee.  Hopefully this will be it and you will not need any more!!!

I guess right now in the US doctors are afraid to give pain medication even to those that need it.  My sister had a brain tumor and was dealing with lots of pain and the local doctors didn't want to give her any medication !!!  She finally found a specialist at the Stanford Medical Center that got rid of her tumor and gave her all the pain medication she needed.

No pain meds...is your doctor nuts???? You definitely need pain meds, so you can heal faster!!! Being in pain is not conducive to healing.

I agree but he did say when I get released from the hospital I will be given some and afterwards I will be given some from the pain management specialist. My only concern is getting there the first month I will be home bound.but I see him next week so everything should be okay.

I can be sarcastic at times I am well aware things are going to stink. In fact the way I see it most people in the US are starting to think about summer vacation in my case its almost over 9 days. Going by previous replacements there is a slight chance by the middle or end of September I might be able go to our cottage. The reason I say might it is a 600 mile trip and after 3 months I should be feeling slightly better but one thing is for sure my knee will let me know.

Your in single digits as well!! Just think after the surgery you and I both will be on a drug induced state!! If we need anything push a button. Personalized room service only bad thing about this is when therapist come and you have to get out of bad and walk. After going thru this so many times I wish I could say its not that bad instead being truthful it hurts lie hell. Even thought that really stinks the sooner you get up and start moving the knee the faster you start healing.
