Clicking in the knee.

Have posted here before. Had knee surgery just over 4 weeks ago . I feel Im doing very well. Am walking with one stick, though only maybe 300/400 metres at a time once a day. Going upstairs OK ,showering now etc. Still on meds due to pain which is not unbearable. Worse in the morning, cant straighten knee until about 15 minutes then OK. However,I can feel a click in my knee when I do exercises, walk etc occasionally. For anybody who has had this,is it normal?

Gaby. Thanks ever so much for your quick reply. That is very reassuring. I asked my physio what she thought and she was a bit non committal but said she didnt think anything would be wrong. I see the surgeon on 9th January. How are you?

    Hi John

you are doing very well, especially as far as pain and straightening are concerned.  Keep going with the straightening, as this is one of the quickest things to stiffen up and cause problems.

Clicking is very normal...I still get it with my 3-year old TKR, especially if I bend knee out to the side and then straighten...or when turning over in bed.

    Regards

yes i had clicking on my revision knee it didnt last that long so i wouldnt worry about it ,it was annoying though !  dont worry about meds as it is reallyearly days for you and if you stop taking them too soon you wont be able to excersise enough ,keep up the straightening its as important as the bend

I had more of a 'clunk' feeling after my TKR in Nov., but the more physical therapy I had, the less I felt that. As long as it's not painful, I don't think you need to be concerned because it's very common.

Just getting normal pain Jemma. But I guess its to be expected, only 4 weeks. Plus no pain with the click/clunk.

      Sarah,

Had a total right knee replacement on 20th November. So its just over a month. I feel im doing quite well, doing exercises, knee bending well. Also doing straightening exercises and that seems to be going very well also. I went out yeasterday into town and had a little walk,Im using a stick now. I was just a bit concerned about the clicking so thats why i posted the question.

Going to see consultant on 12th January and hoping hell say its ok to drive. Thanks.

      Hi Sarah

      Happy New Year

Saw the consultant today. he is a surly so and so but thats not important. Made me roll up my trouser leg and show my knee, said it looked OK. I asked about the clicking and he mumbled something but didnt seem concerned. Its now 6 weeks and Im walking with a stick. Most Ive done is about half mile but I dont want to overdo it. Will start driving short distances also. Still intermittent pain and stiffness but im guessing this is normal? Still taking tablets, that doesnt bother me. All the best.
