Hello Hilary. Not quite 4 weeks yet and noticed yesterday I automatically used legs normally on stairs. However I made conscious effort to do it how I had been shown. Just thought it was too early. Not noticed groin pain but today got a clicking in hip. Think it easy to worry too much when it is all so new. I fear dislocation. Trying to follow the rules until 8 week check

Hi Hilary, I'm 5 weeks post op starting today and I'm still not going up stairs normally, I think I'm afraid to put weight on my operated hip. It's been so long since I've done stairs it's like learning g to climb them all over again.

    Hi Hilary

Just back from Physio and asked about stairs - I'm 5 weeks- she said wouldn't be expecting to go up normally yet and to carry on one step at a time.

I've had bit of groin pain- think it's when I've done too much but all pain will be readjusting to different ways of walking and standing.

    Good luck!

Hi Hilary, glad you are making progress. I I think from what i have read, that the groin pain is typical, aches and pains here and there when recovering are normal. I am at 10 weeks now and can walk up the stairs at home normally, I switch back and forth depending on how I feel, but the operated leg seems to be functioning with more strength now. Wishing you the best in your recovery, God bless, Susan

I get a bit of groin pain sometimes when I have been walking a lot, not only in my operated side but also in my unoperated side.  I panicked about this at first, but I hope it will all settle down after 6 months as I am told it can take up to 9 months to be completely back to normal.  As for climbing stairs I was about 4 months post op when I walked up and down normally without having to think about it but we are in a bungalow so I don't get much practice at that at home.

Hello Barbara. Think the differences in recovery may well be to do with our different environments. I live in a split level town house. 2 sets of stairs each with 6 steps.. Have to use one set every time I need loo. Also live on a slope so getting plenty of hilly walking every time I go to town which used to be 15 minutes walk now more like 40. My high street is uphill. Do the trip everyday for exercise. Always tired on the return trip so not ready to give up support as I enter week 4 post op. Yet to carry anything but may try rucksack towards end of week. Been assured one cannot damage hip by walking so now wearing pedometer to record mileage and to keep increasing. Have to burn off the chocolate!!!!

    Hi Hilary

Yes groin pain normal after walking a while but eases with rest and lessens with time.

I didn't walk with 1 foot on each step till a couple of weeks ago and I'm 11 weeks, but suddenly did it.

I do it all the time now and always have a little smile on my face when I've got to the top or bottom, I used to have a whoop at first.

I think the more you do it the easier it is and I think I was so used to going up and down with 2 feet on each step I just keep doing it. Never mind we all get there eventually.

    Hi

Its a while since I had my THR's but both of them I  just suddenly realised I was doing it normally.  It wasnt before the 6 weeks.  I know even now if I have a bit of pain in my back or leg I revert for that day to using the stairs good bad etc
