Clinical depression Vs hormonal depression

For those people who are taking and ad for depression associated with menopause or hormonal imbalance...

ive fought this depression since entering menopause 15 months ago... and wish i knew what the difference was or is it the same..i mean...

isnt depression just depression whatever type it may be?

.i dont want to go down the AD road unless i think that its going to help and then its going to be a trial an error journey anyways..

any answers would be so helpful

Hi depression is just depression but when i became peri menopausal that's when my depression started although I now think it was a nervous breakdown I had. I could not cope with anything, I cried all the time, I could not eat or sleep, it was a nightmare.  I take Sertraline to help control the depression. Some days are better than others, I'm told by my GP that's the hormone imbalance. I'd say total confusion about sums it up at this point and I'm 56 now and started on the Sertraline when I was 50.  I felt I had to start taking an AD to be able to function. You may have other options, it has helped me, good luck

Thank you Liz for your response! Its weird because people of all ages and gender suffer from anxiety/depression, and i think personally that its the hormone imbalance.

Is all the hormones working together that are either balanced or NOT balanced.

I have made two feeble attempts at this med actually and really feel dreadful when on it. Its like whatever was happening made it worse. I couldnt tolerate it.

I dont look down on any medication if its going to help the person. I have good days and bad but mostly fluctuating ups and downs of moods, mainly the adrenaline anxiety feeling.

Are you doing well now with this med? I also know its totally driven by hormones, because ive never suffered from depression or anxiety this until i hit about 50.

Im sorry you had such a hard time. i understand it totally, and its been over a year now with no appetite for me.

There is so much going on with me symptom wise that i dont bother mentioning it on the forums...so i just focus on the main ones and thats the mood thing. smile

Thanks for the support and its good you have something that helps you for sure.

I have neck issues, and so what actually believe it or not helps me for a spell are chiro adjustments to my back and neck. It feels amazing and opens up the channels, the nerves where there is impingement.

Hope all is well ...write anytime
