Clobetasol impact/dosage question

Hi all, thanks again for the invaluable information on this forum.

1. FIrst, used Clobetasol daily for two weeks, and then switched to every other day.  If my symptoms are settling down, can I go to once aweek?  I don't see my doc again for three more weeks.

2. The white 'scarring' has -- as many mentioned on this board -- 'melted.'  With continued clob use, will it leave, or just stay in the 'melted' state?

I'm using the baking soda spray after each (home) bathroom use, and added a daily dab of frankincense oil to see if that helps stop/reverse the mild fusing I have.

Again -- grateful for all the insights into this confusing condition!

Does the clob sting at first?

Yes when I first used Clob it burned and was very painful. You have to heal a bit and then it works. I used Eucerin until I was a bit better.

Hi Lee,  It has never stung me.  Only ever soothing.

Hi - I don't think I would jump from every second day to once a week. I know everyone is different but I found everytime I got past three days everything fell over and I was back to square one. I would continue until your next appointment, I've been using clobetesol since 2009 regularly and found it is the only thing that works for me. So don't worry about a couple of weeks of using it every second day.

As to fusing/changes I don't believe anything will stop it. There are good patches and bad. Just when I think it's all going good I'll have a flare up. The best thing is to be diligent with your hygiene regime, try cut out sugars and anything foods that may cause a flare up and the most important one for me - don't stress (sometimes easier said than done).

    good luck

Twice a week is standard. I tried to go from every third day to every fourth and I could tell it was o good, so I went back to every third. These dosages are a way of maintaining a constant bit of the drug down deep.

    Hi Sabrina,

I would not reduce the glob usage just yet.  It takes longer than a month or so to get things under control.  I'm in for a couple of years now and still need to use, however small amount, twice a week.

I have it pretty bad but aquaphor that my doctor told me to use in between keeps it in check until it doesn't, then I use the clob.

Sabrina, I hope you're not using the frankincense oil 'neat' – straight up. Essential oils should never be applied or consumed neat. This is why I put a few drops in a small bottle of jojoba oil. I suspect this is what you're doing, but I wanted that here for anyone else wjho might happen on this discussion.

Hi, DEFINITELY DON'T REDUCE application for another 3 weeks, keep using every other day and most importantly rub in for 90 seconds. LS is a persistent problem that never really goes away, you can just suppress it.

My white patches have not returned since I continued the maintenance application of twice a week. personally I do not use any essential oils I won't risk it. I just use the Dermovate, to the spritzing with bicarb and water and I use HYDROMOL OINTMENT as a barrier . That's doing the job for me. I apply barrier ointment at least half an hour after the steroid cream. Skin is normal looking and feeling and does not split and tear as it used to.

So glad you've seen improvement already, you must keep it up, then hopefully fusing etc will be minimum. good luck x

My doctor advised me to use Clobetasol ointment for 3 weeks straight, then stop for two weeks. It's been pretty effective thus far, but I'm wondering--what if I get to a point where I can't go 2 weeks without it?

My experience is, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this, to use Glob less after three weeks, but certainly do not stop for two weeks.  Better to go twice a week and also when LS 'announces' itself.

      Keep well.

Yeah, I was told twice a week as maintenance. If I try to stretch it an extra day, things start happening.

But I keep reading more and more variations. Doctors do not all agree on how to use clobetasol.
