Clobetasol not working?

Posted , 10 users are following.

Hi all,

I got diagnosed with LS 2 years ago and at that time I was prescribed clobetasol and my itching cleared up within 4 weeks.

However, now ive had a flareup for the past 4 weeks and haven't felt any better while using the clobetasol. I actually feel somewhat worse. I sent an email to my doctor last friday but havent heard back. I am not sure if i should quit the clobetasol or not.

im super bummed because i am supposed to go on vacation this friday 😦 i dont want to be miaerable with this constant itching!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated! especially to stop the itching!

I would switch to Cortizone 10 ointment . Use it morning and night, and massage it in. during the day, use coconut oil or aloe vera . Hope this helps!

Staci, I'm not clear, so have you been using the clob routinely for the whole 2 years? or just initially, then stopped, and now treating again?

I'd make a doc appt right away. It is possible that something else is going on.

Meanwhile, some ice cubes might help...or failing that some lanacaine. But, I'd get to doc.

I gradually stopped using the clobetasol 2 years ago after the itching cleared up. Since then I have only been using it on and off when i have a flare and it usually does the trick but not this time! I did see my doctor 3 weeks ago and she tested for yeast, bacteria, etc but all came back negative. Hopefully my doctor will get back to me today!

Sometimes it's external yeast growth. Rub on some antifungal ointment like MONISTAT or jock itch cream and see if it helps.

Thanks for saying this, seginns. I battled a uti a few weeks ago, got past that, but have recently been having a few itchies...grabbed my lamasil...

I feel like dealing with this is like playing whack-a-mole...with a blindfold.

I have to used an antifungal the day after I used my steroid ointment, which I now use twice a week. If I don't, I inevitably end up with external yeast and itch because of that. It's like I'm on this crazy see-saw and can't ever get things balanced.

And today, I have a full fledged flare up...geez. See-saw is right! I wish I could understand this...

I ate about 1/3 cup plain greek yogurt...I think dairy is the worst for me...

Staci-- Benadryl gel? Baking soda paste (water a nd a little soda) Calamine lotion. You may be reacting to the clobetasol. It can happen. I would put in an urgent call to gyn. After all, they're supposed to be working for you. Also try Zyrtec?

hello STACI0120 what i would do or should i say try is soaking in the bath tub for 20mins then towel off and then apply the clobetasol to affected area and massage in for 10mins ,, soaking in a tub for 20mins softens the top layers of the skin to allow the medicine to go deep down into to the skin , and do this twice a week , this is what my wellness doctor had suggested i do and it has been working for me with no problems ,, i think the reason why people say this medication dose not work is because they are using it wrong this type of skin disorder causes thickening of the skin and if you do not soak the skin to get it soft the medication wont absorb in to the skin the thick skin will block out the medication,, so try that before giving up on it because from what my wellness doctor told me this is the only thing that would help this skin condition and with out it, it would take it to different stages of the skin problem like fusion and even cancer if you don't keep up on it ,,i have had this skin condition for about 5 years and sense i have been using the clobetasol l have felt back to normal

Are you massaging it in for 10 minutes or is that a typo? The most I've heard recommended is up to 90 seconds.

Sounds interesting and good advice donna worth trying

yes massage it in for ten minute that would help it go threw all the layers of the skin ,which i found out we have about five layers and we need the medication to reach all the way down to the bottom layer to help with the condition ,with this skin condition we could get a little lazy and miss these steps because of how busy we are and also forget to even use the ointment in a timely manor i am guilty of that myself and when i don't keep up on it i can tell a difference my skin begins to thicken and that what you don't want to happen because it causes all the changes , the shrinkage , fusion and everything else that could happen with this type of condition ,,it seems to have different levels and stages to it so keep up on it and you can become normal again

Ten minutes is not for me, but do what is right for you. I would suggest using a finger cot so that the skin of your finger isn't exposed to clobetasol for 10 minutes as well.
