Clogged ear for 5 month - lots of exams that show nothing

Posted , 73 users are following.

Hi everyone,

I must say that I thought about writing down a post here, but I didn't do it till now.

It's been almost 5 month since my misery had started, meaning, the ear pressure, to be specific, it's only on the right ear.

It all started one day, with lymph node that got swollen next to my tragus, at that day, I visited the ER since I was afraid it was something that might be dangerous.

The ENT gave me some antibiotics and some nasal drops, he also mentioned that it will take some time until the swollen lymph node will decrease and vanish.

Few days after this issue, my ear got clogged. only the right one..

To make a long story short, I visited almost 10 ENTs, Neurologist, Orthopedist, TMJ (Mouth and dental doctor), few Dentists and other alternative therapists - such as accupatre and chiropractor.

Took tons of medicines - including few types of antibiotics, nasal drops (steroids and other), pain killers, anti-inflammation medicines etc.

Did a lot of exams - Head CT, Head MRI, tympanometry, audio test, ultrasound exam, X-Ray to my neck and spine, FOL (optical fiber) test and other tests that I can't remember.

All of the exams didn't have any conclusion to what was the issue, all the exams came out fine! - meaning, I'm stuck with it.

I must say,

I'm 30 years old, vegetarian, eat healthy, working out, working in non-physical job and pretty much having no other issues.

I'm reaching out for your assistance,

Anyone had experienced it also? Can you assist me with finding what is the root cause of it?

I feel like my life turned 180 degrees, from being a friendly guy and leaving happy life, I turned out to be grumpy, unhappy and most of all, exhausted of this situation.

Hopefully I'll find an answer here,

Thanks,

FM.

Hello !! I feel like I am having the same issue and all the doctors tell me my ears are healthy and don't know why this is happening.  Were you able to fix it?

Hey.. my ear canal was very much itchy. I tried something known as dadiji Ka nuksha.. what I did is I took 5-6 garlic cloves and I cut it in 2 parts. Then I took 4-5 tbsp mustard oil.

I added that garlic cloves In the oil and heated the mustard oil in water bath ( to avoid oil to catch fire) when the oil became very much hot I stopped heating it. And allowed it to cool. After sometime I checked the temperature of oil by keeping a drop of it on backside of my hand to check whether the temperature is tolerable or not. Now using a dropper keep 2-3 drop of oil in ur ear and plug ur ear with cotton. Keep it like it minimum for 1 hour so that oil is soaked completely by ur skin of the ear.

After 1 hr remove the extra oil from ur ear but don't wash ur ear. Let the oil inside ur ear be soaked by the skin.

(WARNING: DON'T TRY THIS METHOD IF YOU HAVE PERFORATED EAR DRUM.

DONT KEEP HOT OIL IN YOUR EAR IF IT IS NOT TOLERABLE.)

And eat the garlic cloves it will be good for body.

And yeah I also used Clozotic ear drop.

Today I didn't faced the ear discomfort that I used to face every night.

And yeah this worked for me tonight. I hope it will help me and everyone of us to get rid of problem.

    For both martha & Ark.

    There isn't a cure.There isn't a cure.There isn't a cure.

They don't know what causes it,so they don't know where or how to seek a cure.Try this, try that, is what you'll get from the doctors. They just don't know.So far the truest advice I've had is " Try & learn to live with it"

That's all very well said Michael,  However, easier said, than done !!

It's always worth reading posts from fellow suffers, as someone

may have found out for themselves what helps them to pass on

      to others.

Like in my case.  Apart from the odd day once a week, I think I've

managed to crack it.....still getting blocked ears, but am able to

sort them out with the medication I'm currently using.  May get

told when I see my ENT consultant next month that I must stop

using the stronger nasal drops.  However, with only having to use

them once a week, wondering if I'm not causing that much harm

if any.  Never a good thing to stay on any steroid medication long

term, but it's an just awful thing having to live with Eustachian Tube

      Dysfunction long term too.

Someone one day with come up with an answer.  In the meantime

all of us lot on the Forum I'm sure find comfort in just sharing how

they feel and getting comfort from others.  There are a lot of very lonely

people out in the World and for those suffering in silence the internet

is a wonderful thing....So Social Media does have some things going

      for it.

I'm more than happy to reassure anyone, who is frantic with worry suffering

ETD.  There's hasn't been one person in all the time I've been on the Patient

Forum that isn't concerned about how long this condition will last.  I'm testimony

having suffered more years than I want to even think about that it's not an easy

one.....hence the reason doctors are baffled.  Unless they see something concrete

that the person is suffering from, i.e. Sinusitis, Allergies or colds.  Colds are the

big culprit for causing ETD and long term discomfort.  And if one has Tinnitus too

added to their misery, that's is worse still.  I think ETD and Tinnitus go hand in hand.

Compassion for anyone suffering can only be a good thing !!

      Anne

I just really wished that the medication I'm using was available in other countries.

The doctors do know but the government has them tied lipped about what we have.

Morning Adrian,  If you live in the UK you will most definitely be able

to get prescribed what has helped me.

      Let me know

I understand & take on all the points you make ,but some of the letters just go on forever repeating ad nauseum lists of all their ailments.Almost to the point of loving & enjoying  their poor state of health.A friend suggested to a lady she knew that "She's ill beyond her wildest dreams"

    You get my drift

I'm the same way. But its both of my ears. And have this for almost. 3 years already. I don't have a life no more. Especially right now I feel like my head is ging to blow up

I feel your pain. Ear clog feeling with immense pressure, dizziness, nausea and inability to focus has totally flipped my life upside down. I now have 2 opposite pitches ringing in my head that seem ear-pressure related. High pitch like tinnitus and very low hum that sounds like a pulsing turbine. I just read an article about Wind Turbine Syndrome that was interesting. I’m so nervous and hopeless about everything I’m reading from sufferers of this odd issue - sounds like no real relief in site. And people who don’t experience this DO NOT understand how debilitating it can be. One thing that gives me slight relief is Naso-Sympatico Therapy (long tips dipped in Naso-Sympatico oils and put into nose past the meatus). It’s a short-lived and soothing treatment that reliefs a tad bit of pressure.

Hello Joanne,  Sorry to hear you're suffering.too.

Evidently, to help with Tinnitus 300 mg daily of Magnesium is really

suppose to help.  I for one will certainly give it a go.

Oh thank you. I take magnesium but have been forgetting to. I’ll take note if that makes a difference. Best to you

I've had these symptoms for the last several years & have been advised by various GPs & three specialists that there really isn't any treatment for ETD or PET.Yesterday I visited another GP who has joined the local practise & was advised for the very first time that there is something ,but not available on the NHS. Never in all the time I've had this condition has any doctor mentioned this.I wonder why ?.

I would happily pay almost any price to rid myself  of  this pressure in my head & ears, the dizziness & nausea & the inability to focus.

Watch this space & I'll let you know if I make any progress.

Michael,  what medication have you already tried ?  Being in England, haven't you

been offered what has helped me.  Firstly, getting rid of all the inflammation that's

preventing our ears from unblocking, which is usually a long enough course of

Prednisolone, and then Flixonase Nasule Drops.  I'm sure you've seen many of

my posts recommending the above.  all I can say both of these medications have

certainly helped me with my years and year of misery from this wretched problem

      from ETD.

No one should be left to suffer for months and years on end from this disabilitating

      condition.

      Kind regards

      Anne

My GP & other doctors advise me that it's very rarely carried out in the U.K.because it's regarded as a procedure that is dangerous
