Clomipramine withdrawal and insomnia

Hi, I've been coming off Clomipramine (by tapering down) and took my last dose about a week ago. Since then I've had (amongst other things like upset stomach, bleurgh) pretty bad insomnia. Despite being really tired and sleepy, gritty eyes etc, it takes me around 3-4 hours to get to sleep and once asleep I don't sleep particularly well. I took diphenhydramine one night, which did work, but I don't want to do that every night.

Has anyone else had this experience, or just general clomipramine withdrawal experience, and could give me an idea of how long it might last. I'm really struggling to function and my emotional state is taking a bit of a hit (though whether thats the lack of sleep or the withdrawal, or both, i don't know!). I'm also worried that taking it has effected my sleep patterns etc in a more permanent way rolleyes so some reassurance that this is just temporary would be nice too!!

Thanks so much for any input smile

    Hello Doompixie,

Yeah Clomipramine withdrawal is the pits - take a "Solo" Magnesium (375mg) capsule at night time; it will bring back your sleep as well as help you cope with other aspects of withdrawal.  November is the worst month because it's so dark and mood naturally slips.  Get on the magnesium, you won't look back

HI where do you get the Solo magnesium as I took my last clomipramine 10 days ago and am trouble sleeping.  Also how long does the withdrawal last

Are you doing the withdrawal with your GP? or just trying to do it yourself? X

Thanks, I'll try the magnesium idea. I'm doing it on my own but after checking it was ok with my psych.

Suggest Vit D.. Was told by heal consious EX that I should get as much sun / D as I can.

Just wanted to update to say thanks for all the comments and also on what the progress has been in case anyone ever comes across this thread who're having the same issues.

Its been about a week, week and a half now and things are getting better. I fell asleep fine on Friday then it only took me an hour or two last night (but there was outside noise etc that was part of why it took so long I think). The stomach issues have also calmed down.

I'd totally forgotten about the magnesium so can't really comment on whether that helped or not smile
