gold day everyone. i have been taking sertraline 50mg for 3 months and clonazepam .5mg for around 6 weeks but since friday I have been having panic attacks and anxiety non stop. has anyone needed to increase any of the dosages, either for clonazepam or sertraline? i am so frustrated right now because I was starting to feel so much better and now i feel like i've taken three steps back.

Hi Bekystar, I know that this is hard to believe but these drugs (benzos and anti-depressants) actually have a paradoxical effect in your body after a while and this is a well documented fact - the writing of Dr. Peter Breggin or Professor Heather Ashton who are experts in this field will attest to what I am saying. I have been doing research on the hazards of taking psych drugs so this information is very fresh in my mind. I understand how you feel because the same happened to me in that my insomnia got so much worse after taking benzos for a while and changing to another pych drug, didn't help for long.
I know that it feels like you have made progress when you start to feel better but the absence or reduced symptoms doesn't actually mean progress it just means that your brain is satisfied in the short term but because of the addictive qualities of these drugs, your body will just crave or demand more in time. Progress occurs when you slowly reduce the drugs to zero and learn now coping skills - giving yourself a much healthier future. There is a lot of help and information out there. I have written a book on this topic based on my experiences and there are others. I strongly suggest that you educate yourself because your future depends on knowing what to do to help yourself. The Ashton manual is a good place to start.
