Hi

Last friday i was as low as can be expected with anxiety and depression that i just wanted to end it.i was rushed to mental health and they gave me a course of 0.5mg clonazepam.

Since taking these tablets my mind is not so negative and i thonk less of harming myself. Is anyone else on these tabs and experiencing the same? I also take agomelatine and mirtazepine at night

Hey Stephen.... smile sorry to butt in but you never mentioned that you are on agomelatine and mirt!!! That's a relief! Were you on them during your episode and if so how long have you been on them at current dosage?

Clonazepam is a temporary crutch. It works by relaxing your muscles and inhibiting the central nervous system thereby promoting a more neutral state of mind, therefore limiting urges and anxieties. It is great that it has helped you feel better. Usually they do not take the edge off in progressed cases, meaning your condition is not as severe and/or is being quite well managed by the other medication. Another thing obvious from your reaction to them is a pronounced desire to feel better which is wonderful!

Taken for 1-2 weeks and up to 2 months (the latter is rare),  in regular daily doses it can help you unwind sufficiently to enable a smoother recovery on your antidepressants (which are the ones actually doing teh necessary work of stabilizing your brain) as well as making you feel more calm and confident. Prolonged use of clonazepam and other benzos is not advisable and use in excess of one week has to be followed by a gentle taper.

Will you be visiting the mental health team again for an evaluation before you are done with clonazepam?

      -hi

I been on agomelatine and mirt now for six months. But i find clonazpem really good. Its lifted my mood alot. I take 0.5mg twice a day. Im hoping i can stay on these for a long while. I read on line that there are people that been on it for two years or more. But at the mo it has reduced my horrible thoughts of ending it and has relax my thoughts and body all in one go.

Prolonged treatment with benzos is outdated and rare nowadays, mainly because we have many excellent drugs that can help address the problem rather than just mask it. So benzos are used as a temporary support as they are meant to and not as therapy. Ideally, your doctors will adjust the dosage of your other medication (or try a different approach) minimizing the need for reliance on clonazepam long-term. You can actually (and are in fact supposed to) feel as good and better than you do now on clonazepam once you are on the right antidepressant or combo or the correct dosage!

For now, enjoy some relief, calm your mind, return to yourself and be good to yourself. A positive experience such as this can kick-start your recovery nicely. Now that you had some taste of relief, you know what to look forward to and then some. This is what I wish for you and at the soonest. xx
