    Hi diane,

I went cold-turkey 3 weeks ago yesterday., Still having to go to the toilet 3-4 times a day although the runs are slowly turning back more towards normal now. Still got the restless legs at night, the slight nausea, Found that my eyes are incredibly sensitive to normal light, I'm virtually permanently wearing sunglasses outdoors whatever the weather.

I was only taking average 4 tablets a day, for approx 6 years, si I can't imagine what others who have been taking 20-30 tablets a day would be like, frightening thought.

Hope you get through it as soon as possible, stick at it though because it WILL be worth it eventually, promise.

Thankyou, I only took four s night, the worst thing was I didn't tell my husband. Now he knows and is helping through. I think once you let some one know how you feel you don't have to pretend your ok.

I now feel I can get back to normal, I have told my husband how I have been feeling. He has said whatever it's takes he is with me all the way. I can't wait to get my life back. One thing this had taught me always don't keep secrets.

      Hi diane36017,

Go to the chemist and buy some loperamide. It's an anti diarrhoea medication. Buy reasonably large packet.

The instructions on the pack will be take 2 initially and then 1 after each bowel movement.

Ignore that and take 5 initially and 2 after each bowel movement until it stops. It will help. On the second day start with 2 and then 1 every couple of hours.

People do take far more that this, I've taken 20 a day for 3 days before, but it's best to go easy at first as you don't know how it will affect you.

Loperamide will also help a little with the cravings as it binds to the same opioid receptors in the brain as codeine does.

Well done for telling your husband. Every bit of support you have goes a long way to beating the addiction.

I'm on day three today, blinding headache, no appetite. Fortunately I have a day off work. Back tomorrow, hopefully working will take my mind off things. No temptation to go back to co codamol.

      Hi diane,

Congrats on all that you have achieved. It takes a lot of kahunas.

As for the physical symptoms, the very worst of mine eased after about 8 days. And I was taking about 30 neurofen plus a day for roughly 9 years. So a substantial amount more than youself. I was taking lyrica for the restless legs as they drove me to near insanity, i didn't sleep a wink for 5 days straight.

The most important thing to you right now is your husband. I never would have quit and continued to remain clean to this day if it weren't for my fiance.

You're doing an amazing thing. Be proud smile

Just a side note. Whilst the diarrhea is frustrating, it's your liver detoxing and cleaning out all the built up sludge. Your body is healing itself. It's hard but try and go with it.

      Good luck to you hun.

      Nikki xx
