Co help in stopping for new year

Hi, I've been drinking far to much for the past 20 years, it's a rollercoaster I have now decided to get off. I have got myself in this trap that I work hard, I come home. I have a drink, but I can't stop at just the one! So I want to stop as of tommorow and I'm dreading it, it's a promise I've made to myself. Is there anyone else in the same boat that would be prepared to be text support? I'm just looking for that 'be strong'when I'm weak and would do like wise for others in same position

hello prb, im in the same boat as yourself and am tailoring the beers down each week, a little step at a time. very few of us can do "cold turkey" without experiencing side-effects.Would be pleased to be your buddy,....retired from the profession now, but still more or less active following recent events (lost my partner of many years), and I hope We can both slow the booze down together......I am no longer in the profession due to retirement, so I cannot offer you medical advice, but lets go for a buddy system....if you are up for it, email me on _____, or on here, cheers, mate, Howard in the UK.

patricia44773 »prburgess • 12 minutes agoCongratulations, prburgess, you must be feeling pretty proud of yourself.  I am like you were...an habitual drinker, drinking every evening in order to wind down and be able to get to sleep.

I wanted to ask you how you have been dealing with getting to sleep since you quit.  It's the thing that concerns me most.  I haven't gone to bed without a drink for years and years.

Hi Patricia, thanks for the support. Like you I probably hadn't gone to bed for years without a drink, or two! As I always had gone straight to sleep that was a big concern for me as well, I had in mind if I struggled the first night I would get some sleeping pills of some sort of on the chemist, which was also a concern because of my working hours. But I was to be fair amazed how well I have been sleeping and I do seem to be going into a much better ,deeper sleep. It is a nice feeling being able to go to bed and know you've made it though the evening without alcohol, I often used to wake up in the night and be angry with myself remembering what I'd drunk and then laying there worrying if I'd be over the limit in the morning. I think you'd be surprised how content and relaxed you will feel getting to bed without a drink, I hope it works for you and good luck

Thank you so much for your reply and for giving me a hopeful answer.  I am still just at the "considering" stage, but hearing stories like yours gives me great hope.  I just wish I was as brave and strong willed as you seem to be.  Thank you again......and keep up the good work.
