Coca Cola gives me coldsores

I have found that just drinking coca cola gives me almost instantaneous coldsores. I did not drink any coke for years and 2 weeks ago I was out and decided to try one as there wasn't much else around to drink. Within an hour I got a cold sore on my lip - I have not had one of those for over 1 year. And just today - 2 weeks since my last cold sore, I woke up to find that another small one has started to appear - very unusual for me to get these so near to each other - and yesterday quite late in the evening I drank a glass of coke !!!! Nothing else changed - no partying, no junk food, no alcohol, no stress , no lack of sleep, just the coke.

I live a relatively healthy life style so normally have no problem keeping my herpes at bay but it seems that Coke can tip the balance. I do not drink any other carbonated drinks so it is possible that the "fizz" is the cause or it could be the sugar or the chemicals - I will probably never know but I will now go back to my Coke free lifestyle for sure.

Hello. What a strange reaction to coke. It must be as you said something in the fizz that causes it.

I think all the sugar and chemicals are hard work for your body to eliminate and takes a bit of energy to do so - energy which your body uses to constantly fight of diseases like this, so makes it harder to keep them at bay. I drink tonic and fizzy water but those do not seem to have the same effect. The number 1 cause is of course cold weather

I had a cold sore just under my nose. Now that's healed I have some on my bottom lip. It's so sore and hard to keep dry so it's taking forever to heal. I rarely drink coke but had one yesterday when out at lunchtime. Think I'll avoid them in future. It's worth a try anyway.
