Codeine exteme pain

I have become addicted to paracetamol and codeine. I dont take a high dose but i take 1000/30mg twice a day, even if i am not in pain. I recently have developed gastritis (burning lining of stomach/ulcerations) due to the codeine on an empty stomach for 7 years. I am starting to want to take more and more. It also makes me really fatigued. So i decided to stop. Last night was a full 24 hours off the drug and i was up the whole night in extreme pain. My shoulders, wrists, hips, knees andankles were aching. Worse than ever before.I put an ice pack on them and eventually after 2 hours with tears running down my face i took just one pankiller which allowed me to sleep. Have any of you tried to come off opiates? Any advice for me?

    Hi,

Have you spoken to your Doctor about your medication? Coming of anything that we are addicted to is hard. I was on Oxycontin, Oxyn8rm and various other plls for years.. I came of it all at the same time but I my left side spasms made my life hell. I did sleepbfor a few days. I still take pregablin but it doesn't help any for my pain. Please I urge you to go to your

Doctor for help if you can.

I came off a rather high prescribed dose of  Amitriptilyne  many years ago..I definitely had the withdrawing effects...but I wasn't on it for years like that, poor you, I'm really feeling for you...my doctor was shocked I did it and didn't tell him, but I just felt like a zombie on the higher dose...perhaps you should do it in conjunction with your doctor..I hear codeine is very addictive..and you may need professional help while you do it...you are very strong to do this on your own..hope things get better for you really soon, be blessed..have a great day..:-) xxxx

Hi Flowerface, I hope that you didn't just stop taking them and go 'cold turkey'? It must be done gradually, and preferably with your GP's support. In fact, ideally you should see your GP to work out how to deal with your addiction, if indeed it IS truly an addiction, and also to see how to control your pain at the same time. You don't mention your GP at all. Is that a problem? xx

    Hi flowerface

yes I have tried to come off my codeine but I can't because I cannot function without it

I can take up to eight a day but only take four to get me up and moving about I also don't sleep at all at night last night I was still awake at 3am then I tried to sleep but only got one hour this is a problem of mine too but I seem to function ok on such short amount of sleep but when I overdo things the fatigue sets in and I have to give up which I hate. I used to be on morphine patches and a strong antidepressant but managed to wean myself off of those but I can't do without the codeine the pain is so severe that I wouldn't be able to get out of bed. It does give me other problems like constipation but I manage that with herbal senna hope this has been of some help
