Codeine withdrawal symptoms

Posted , 46 users are following.

So to cut a long story short I have been addicted to codeine for over one year. I knew I had a problem but was unable to reduce my intake so decided enough was enough and decided to go cold turkey. I was taking at least 240mg per day. I am now 10 days since last codeine. I'm not going to lie and say it was easy - it was the worst week of my life but the past couple days have been a lot easier and feel so much better and normal again. My only symptoms I am having now is diarrheoa - I have had diarrheoa at least once a day for 10 days and have lost quite a bit weight. How long does the diarrheoa last?! I have bought Imodium but don't want to start messing about with them but feel I might need to. Another problem I am having is sleep - falling asleep okay at nights but wakening up in the middle of the night and struggling to get back to sleep. I have started taking vitamins to start look after myself a bit better and hopefully help with this but any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi everyone, how are you all doing? Well its been a while since i posted anything because i fell back into addiction and i was too ashamed to admit it. However it very nearly killed me so I feel i need to share my story to let you all know the stark reality of this awful illness. Here goes.

So, some of you might remember me posting on and off about w/d from nurofen plus. Well i couldnt control my addiction and was taking a lot of tablets daily. While doing this i kept getting what i thought were stomach bugs, being sick, not being able to eat etc but i just put it down to bugs going around my office. This went on for months. Fast forward to 5th Dec 2018 and i start with a particularly nasty bug and i have to call in sick. im literally throwing up every half hour and cant even keep water down. Several docs appointments confirm ive a nasty stomach bug and i get a sicknote and anti sickness tablets etc till one saturday night i go to bed early and start with a pain that gets worse and worse till i can bear it not longer, i feel like my stomach is being ripped apart and i beg my partner to ring an ambulance. im in absolute agony at this point, i cant put into words how much pain i was in. the ambulance took 3 hours. They gave me morphine which didnt touch the pain and blue lit me to hospital, where they took a basic blood screening and stuck me in the corridor for 4 hours then sent me home because the bloods didnt show anything. What we didnt realise was i actually had a stomach ulcer that had burst and ripped a hole in my stomach. for 5 days i put up with the agony of a hole in my stomach and i developed peritonitis which is fatal. On the wednesday i went back to hospital and insisted they run full blood tests. right till the last second they were adamant it was a bug, till the blood gases showed massive infection and low heamoglobin. One CT scan later showed my torn up insides and i was whipped off for emergancy surgery lasting 5 hours. They cut my stomach open from my chest to belly button, cut out the burst ulcer, stitched up my ripped stomach, sucked out all the poison and glued me back together. i was in hospital for 3 and a half weeks because i then developed infection. i now have a lovely great big scar down my tummy. if i had not gone back to hospital on that wednesday then i would have been dead by the weekend.

To anyone taking nurofen plus, get help and stop taking it before it kills you. i was so lucky to get surgery before it was too late, but if id waited just one more day, i wouldnt be leaving this message now. Claim your life back before it claims your life.
