Hi,

I was wondering whether anybody experiances the same problems im currently experiencing? I was diagnosed about 6 years ago...I was up and down with how strict i was with my diet..but after having a very rough Oct/Nov last year decided to sort my act out as gluten seemed to be having more of an affect on me than ever before. So for the last 5 months Ive been completely strict with my diet and im actually starting to feel worse!! My symtoms are

- Constant post nasal drip with blood (horrible i know)

- Dizzy spells that just come and go.

- Soooo tired!

- Stomach Pain after gluten free meals (but i dont need to go!! Soz for the info 😂)

- Brain Fog

- Now this one ive never really mention to anyone but it has bothered me...i struggle saying certain things...now as stupid as that sounds..words that i used to be able to pronouce i struggle with now?? (This does scare me)

- very sensitive skin...i had Pityriasis Roscea in Dec for 8 weeks tho!!

Am i the only one thats getting this?? I know i should probably discuss with my doctor but sometimes i dont feel he completely gets me and he kind of shrugs of coeliac disease to be honest!

Yep, I get all of those symptoms after gluten. I've been diagnosed 18 months

The things that are affecting me, without going over usual bowel problems, the most lately are, dizziness, brain fog which includes not being able to say what I'm thinking and even though I think I'm doing ok when I look back I can see mistakes in my work. A feeling of a low mood and just wanting to curl up and cry, then after 3 days to a week of being gluten free I feel good again so I just put it down to having gluten even if I didn't think I'd had any so I've come to the conclusion to feel normal I have to be strictly gluten free

Good insight here already!  I just wanted to suggest staying strict with your GF and consider changing doctors. This can't be taken lightly.  I suspect malabsorption, maybe low iron/B12/D are causing your problems and it could take some more weeks/months to fully heal and abosorb nutrients properly (so please stay strict!).

Also, the suggestion of thyroid is a possibility for anyone but especially with CD, it seems.

So, please get some blood work done, maybe with a new physician/GP if the current one isn't taking your complaints seriously... and GL!!  HUGS!

I know what you mean, those symptoms could also be fibromyalgia (I have that as well as coeliacs disease and a thyroid disorder). I'm seeing my consultant later at the fibro clinic, I can ask if there's a link, as I have wondered for a while now if there is a link between fibro and coeliac disease.

The stomach pain could be also caused by an intolerance to something else.  I have found since being diagnosed that there are other foods I cannot eat. It was my intolerance to dairy which led to my initial testing for coeliac disease, but a few years in, since diagnosis, I've become intolerant to caffeine and soya and other foods. The soya part took a lot of working out, but I kept a food diary and it was a process of elimination.

    Hi,

Just to elaborate on my suggestion for a Thyroid function test, it's from personal experience.

I was an undiagnosed Coeliac, which led to other auto-immune responses such as Hypothyroidism.  My muscles and joints began to sieze up, which caused pain in movement and led to falls. It also meant that my speech became difficult and I also couldn't form my words properly, so speech also became an effort. The 'brain fog' contributed to this as well. I also became clinically depressed (Clinically means due to a physical cause, which was a llack of Thyroid hormone). I was also extremely tired and cold all the time and constantly falling asleep, even when engaged in some activity, which used to cause great hilarity in others! ;-) Your symptoms sounded so similar to mine. Untreated Coeliac disease will often lead on to Hypothyroidism. Hope this helps. Oh, by the way, the good news is that all I needed to fix all these symptoms was a little pill ! Sometimes you will need to really push your GP's into action though. Good luck, hope you get it sorted. M x

Thank you for all your advice it does help! Im sure my Thyroid was recently checked as i sunk in to a really low mood and had anxiety probs but it came back normal but ill have to double check this!! The only thing they did say was from my bloods it showed higher than normal amounts of inflammation in my body (But i was still getting over Pityriasis at the time).

Ive started taking multi vitamins/iron/vitamin D supplements (sometimes i forget tho 😕) as i know malnutrition is a biggy for Coeliac.

Im convinced ive developed an intolerance to something..as im pretty sure my diet has no gluten in as i look at everything if its not fresh. Ill probably have to keep a food diary as thats the first thing the doc will suggest.

My muscles and joints are sometimes painful like if i kneel down for a bit..jeez you would think i was 70 when i stand back up as it actually kills my legs its like they cease up...and i get a random achey swelling on one arm every few weeks. (Im literally falling apart 😂)

Im trying to get into a new GP Surgery but there not taking on till May 😑

Thank you for the advice xx

While there is little satisfaction during a period of autoimmune attack, it is emotionally uplifting to know that others suffer with the disease and are not giving in to it!  Celiac is unpredictable.  It often seems that all you have to do is make up a symptom - for instance type, "celiac, green toenails" and you will find someone suffering with it!  It is nasty, unpredictable, indiscriminant, unforgiving and all too often unrecognized by the medical field.  HOWEVER, those of us who have the disease are a tremendous support for one another.  You are NOT the only one with these challenges.  Eliminating the fear of the unknown is half the battle; hang in there!
