Coffee induced anxiety

So earlier today I woke up and drank a cup of coffee. I really enjoyed it and thought to myself that I’ll have another. I put my cup in the sink and went to watch tv and play some games and all of a sudden it hit me. My heart began to race, I got extremely nervous and shaky. I was numb and was worried I was having an attack. My papaw took me to the dr and I received an injection to calm my nerves, but my worrying is coming back. Any advice?

Randy that happens to me all the time with caffeine . I now have to drink decaf and it’s fine.

    cant stand the caffeine feeling!,

Try to stay away from all caffeinated drinks like pop, etc

Listen to some great meditations on you tube for anxiety and proper breathing technique. One is called Detachment from Overthinking but many others.

A great short one is called Mindfulness Meditation Guided 10 minutes.(great for relaxation and anxiety)

I appreciate your time Jan, it gave me a huge scare. Only time o ever feel worried usually it’s if there’s a reason to be worried. But with this it’s like I have no answer to why my heart races and what I’m worrying about. Is this common? And if so how long do you think it’ll be before I’m back to my old self, thanks!

Caffeine can make anxiety worse...try chamomile tea or lavender tea...those help calm the body...even lavender oil helps

I get the same way if I have caffeine, I used to be able to drink pop and coffee all the time but now I can only drink caffeine free pop and coffee

Yes  it is very common. Some people just cannot handle the caffeine like myself. I really enjoy herbal tea that is decaffeinated with maybe some honey. Actually green tea is very good for you because it has a lot of antioxidants in it.

If you were still feeling the effects, it’s possible that you’re racing heart is due to anxiety because the caffeine should have worn off.

Keep in mind that any symptoms due to  anxiety will not hurt you. Even with the racing heart that is just the adrenaline that your brain sends out when you were anxious. So that’s why it’s important to relax your mind as much as you can.  If you have issues with anxiety, counseling can really help also.

just stay away from caffeine and if you still get the symptoms, really work on bringing down the anxiety because anxiety  will worsen symptoms. And I always tell people to have their routine check ups with their doctor every year. That will also give you peace of mind . Stay hydrated with lots of water.

you’ll be OK. The meditations work great for me! ??😁

The same thing happened to me this past Saturday. I was visiting my godson at the hospital & I had an iced coffee while I was there. On the way home I started to feel very jittery, my heart started to race and I felt pure panic coming over my body. I was on the free way at the time & traffic was pretty heavy. I was literally feeling like I was gonna have to pull over  on the freeway. Luckily I was able to call my mom and distract myself. I know caffeine sometimes has that effect on me but it hadn’t happened in so long. What I do when this happens is eat a meal. I don’t know if it actually helps or not but in my mind I feel like the food “absorbs” the caffeine lol. I read that sometime caffeine activates the flight or fight response in us and that’s why we feel the sudden urge of panic, heart palpitations etc...
