Cold Turkey!

Posted , 6 users are following.

I stopped taking the Zopiclone two nights ago and sleep is awful, to be fair , it wasn't perfect when I was on them. I'm determined to come off as I hear they're addictive.

Has anyone sucessfully managed to ween themselves off?? Do you have any tips??

Ask your doctor for mirtazapine which is an anti depressant. One just as you get into bed should help you sleep. The withdrawal symptons are hard but honestly it gets easier. X

Stick with it, I've been off them 6 weeks after 13 years , you need help from your gp who should prescribe diazepam then get you slowly off , anxiety and panic have been a side effect , your doing great , you will sleep I promise x good luck and don't let this awful drug beat you x

Be easy on yourself.  My doc suggested Melatonin, if you can get it where you are.  Also trying Valerian.  Herbal.  Will get stabilized then try to cut down on that also.  You will find that you realize you may be tired, but still functioning with poor sleep, so next is to learn how to relax and get back to sleep when you wake during the night.  I an slowly getting there, and feel much sharper brain wise.  Keep going......

    Hello

I was addicted to Zopiclone for over 7 years x It's not advisable to stop taking them suddenly if you've been on them a while as you may get withdrawal symptoms. Have you consulted your doctor? I understand u want to come off them but if u find u are struggling you could perhaps half the dose or take the usual dose but no as often - my doctor recommended that I half my 7.5mg tablet to 3.75mg each night for a few weeks then start taking it every other night and so on...

In all honesty this wasn't "enough" for me as I still felt hooked and I desperately wanted them out of my system for good. I asked my doctor for diazepam to help me get off the Zop completely but he was not very happy about this..

In the end I went cold turkey in my bed for just under a week - it was very hard but I am now clean finally of any sleeping pills

I would firstly talk with your doctor about your concerns

    Good luck!

    Emma
