Cold turkey

Hello everyone. I have been reading through quite a few posts on the subject of mirtazapine withdrawal. Most of the posts I see are from people who have spent months and months tapering their dose down to 3.75 with mild to severe side effects, to then finally stop and suffer a withdrawal period that is no better or worse than a complete cold turkey off 45mg.

I personally feel like the NHS have completely conned a lot of people into antidepressant dependancy, not necessarily GP's but the big cheeses at the top who tell the practices to push certain drugs at certain times.

I feel like they have certainly caused me a lot if harm, and that the big companies who are making billions of dollars off these pills do not want you off these meds.

what i am really trying to say is that going cold turkey is really no worse than gradually stopping. Coming off 3.75 feels exactly the same as coming off 45mg! It just takes a lot more time to wein off, and you will be more likely to get fed up and retreat back into their arms. They would rather give advice that will be more likely to result in you staying on meds for life (lining the government/pharmacuticals pockets than be free.

i have had good and bad days, but i feel better if i eat healthy meals with omega 3&6 supplements, a handful of cashew nuts a day & a glass of carrot juice

hope this helps someone

    Hi Paul

I agree with you.The drug is completely poisonous. They only exacerbate your situation. With so many negative reviews on this platform and others i wonder why do such medications still being sold. They get you hooked so you are forever dependent on it.I doubt the manufacturers of this rubbish and the DRs who prescribe it have taken it themselves. The DR who prescribed the med for me told me to just stop. When i told her what was happening to me she never bother to respond my email. I guess for some DRs work is work so they can fund their lifestyles and pay the bills. They dont really care about patients.

I went cold turkey 4 weeks ago after being on 7,5 for 7 weeks.I went through hell .I never felt like that in my entire life.I agree Tapering does not guarantee that one wont have w/s.I am feeling better than a few weeks ago though not 100% percent.I still have a headache, fatiq, the mood is low.I hope for a full recovery in few weeks.I will never take a/d in my life.I wish everyone who is going through recovery a speed one.Success stories i read here confort me and give me hope.

If i may ask how long have you been on and off mirt and at what dose and do you feel now?

    Be blessed

Hi Gary, thanks for your reply. I agree they don't tell you that you'll probably be stuck on these meds for life, or that withdrawing will ruin your life. I have had to throw away 5 years worth if hard work building a reputation in my trade, its all gone. ive had to just choose between letting my regular customers down or going back on meds. Im bedridden at the moment.

I went cold turkey about 8 weeks ago. i was on them for a year, 15mg for 6 months and 30mg for the rest. I felt like crap for 4 weeks but managed to work half days, then i started to feel better but i got a second wave after a week. The second wave has been worse, but only the same as ive been reading from people who have tapered down.

I know now that my recovery has been dependant on my diet. My second bout started after i ate a pasty! I feel ok when i eat healthily but If i have fast food etc then it goes downhill again. Its a hard rut to get out of when your ill!

They could tell you in the first place that its either start eating well and excercising or take pills for the rest of your life and I knowing what i know now I would have just changed my diet

Im sorry for what you going through.I could barely get out of bed in the first two weeks ,but the previous weeks has been much better.I think i also had a 2nd wave as i had a few good days before i started feeling sick again.Im better thou not 100% im even returing to work,i hope i dont get a 3rd wave.8 weeks is along time im sure you are heading to the finish line of your recovery process.Hang in there mate.It will pass.!Draw motivation from positive stories on this platform!

I would like to know how the recovery is going. If you dont mind please update me,i will do the same.
