Haven't been totally off zopiclone yet, still no side effects, guess I'm lucky! I've been weaning off them very slowly with my Doctors supervision taking 5mgs per night Googling should be able to give you the answers, or your Doctor can explain symptoms to you. Good luck !

Hello Gillian, it will be one year in February 2016 since I came off zopiclone cold turkey. The only medication I take now is gabapentin, which is prescribed to me for pain. It does help for sleep but is definitely not the same as zopiclone. You cannot expect gabapentin to put you to sleep and have your problems disappear for a while.

I came off cold turkey because my doctor decided sleeping pills were too addictive, so I resorted to buying online which made me become obsessed with the mail and the possibilities of being arrested and the kind of paranoia associated with buying medicines illegally online.

So I stopped. I was gentle on my myself and relied on accepting my condition. Sleep was difficult for the first few weeks and the lingering effects of longing for the medicine went on for months. I'm much better now, I sleep well, and out of the circle of addiction as gabapentin is not at all addictive, for me at least.

If you have access to zopiclone, you will never stop and find all kinds of reasons to keep on getting the drug, and to me the slow taper can be all about keeping an hand on the drugs as long as you can. It's different for everyone, and I am not a specialist so better to see a doctor if you think slow tapering is what will work for you. Zopiclone is the kind of drug which does something peculiar to the brain in the sense that many users become obsessed with the drug.

Good luck to you, this is not easy, I know from experience. But believe me, sleep is a normal process and you will sleep well when you are really tired, and try to find things in your life to be passionate about, and then you will not be thinking about sleeping all the time. For me exercise what key, and to this day, I get out there and do something.
